The Elder Brother (or Sister)

The elder brother in the parable of The Prodigal Son showed an envious spirit. Below are instances of elder brothers and sisters, and in some cases their attitude toward the younger. 1. He acted as spokesman for his younger brother who felt he was not a good enough speaker to do the work God told him to do.

2. He was cheated by his younger brother and threatened vengeance.

6. This elder sister was given preference by their father when a young man asked for the younger one to be his wife.

8. His sacrifice was not acceptable to God, as was his younger brother's.

9. The elder brother as well as the younger failed to live up to their father's reputation, as judges.

10. When their brother died, the elder sister said to the younger, "The Master is come, and calleth for thee."

    When some Jews bent to
              kill me
      Were lying in wait.

To My __________          From __________

    Though your father would
              slat me
      You're true to the end

To My __________          From __________

5. Mine is well-watered land
      Under Jordan's blue sky.
    You gave me my choice
       And grateful am I.

To My __________          From __________
