Hamburger Gravy recipe



2 hamburger patties

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup butter or margarine

Salt and pepper

1 cup cream

1 cup water



Crumble hamburger into saucepan and stir until brown; drain on paper towel. Return to pan; add butter, flour, salt and pepper to taste. Cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly.



Add cream and water together; cook until thick.



Serve over toast or biscuits.

ORANGE SAUCE FOR CARROTS

1/4 cup sugar 
1/4 cup cornstarch 
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup boiling water
1 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice 
1/4 cup margarine
3 to 4 cups cooked carrots

In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Mix well. Stir in boiling water gradually, stirring constantly to keep smooth. Cook over low heat, stirring until clear and thickened. Remove from heat. Add fruit juices and margarine, stirring smooth. Set over hot water while carrots cook. Fold in cooked carrots. Cover and keep hot 10 to 15 minutes before serving.

Mom's Tomato gravy (for strudels)
1 Tbsp. shortening
1 medium onion, chopped
1 pt. canned tomatoes
1 c. cream
Sauté onion in shortening; add tomatoes, Let simmer for a bit. Just before serving add cream (do not use half and half it will curdle).Heat through.
