SNOWSQUALL WARNING: Barrie - Orillia - MidlandIssued at 3:57 PM EST THURSDAY 20 NOVEMBER 2008

ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT SNOW SQUALL EVENT TO THE LEE OF THE GREAT LAKES TONIGHT THROUGH TO SATURDAY. THIS IS A WARNING THAT SNOWSQUALLS ARE IMMINENT OR OCCURRING IN THESE REGIONS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS.

A FRESH RESURGENCE OF COLD ARCTIC AIR IS BEGINNING TO STREAM INTO SOUTHERN ONTARIO IN THE WAKE OF THE ALBERTA CLIPPER. A SIGNIFICANT SNOW SQUALL EVENT IS ABOUT TO UNFOLD. WEATHER RADAR LATE THIS AFTERNOON INDICATED AN INTENSE SNOW SQUALL ARCING ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HALF OF LAKE HURON. IT IS MOVING SOUTHWARD AND IS ASSOCIATED WITH A WEAK LOW PRESSURE TROUGH OVER THE EASTERN SIDE OF THE LAKE. IT IS AFFECTING COMMUNITIES FROM FOREST TO DUTTON AND WILL LINGER FOR A COUPLE HOURS BEFORE BECOMING DISORGANIZED. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 10 CM ARE LIKELY WITH THIS BAND, ALTHOUGH THEY MAY LOCALLY TOP 15 CM. THE MAIN EVENT IS SLATED FOR TONIGHT. AN INTENSE SNOW SQUALL IS FORECAST TO FORM THIS EVENING AND AFFECT SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF LAKE HURON, FROM FOREST TO NEAR DUTTON. LOCAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 30 TO 40 CENTIMETRES APPEAR LIKELY TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING BEFORE THE SQUALL SWEEPS THROUGH LONDON FOR A TIME IN THE AFTERNOON. IT WILL LIKELY MOVE BACK SOUTH AGAIN FRIDAY NIGHT INTO EASTERN LAMBTON COUNTY. COLOSSAL SNOWFALL TOTALS IN EXCESS OF 50 CENTIMETRES ARE POSSIBLE NEAR THE SOUTH END OF LAKE HURON FROM THIS EVENT BY THE TIME IT WEAKENS ON SATURDAY. AMOUNTS WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER AROUND LONDON. SNOW STREAMERS ARE FORMING LATE THIS AFTERNOON SOUTH OF GEORGIAN BAY. MORE INTENSE SNOW SQUALLS WILL DEVELOP THIS EVENING AFFECTING THE BRUCE PENINSULA TO COLLINGWOOD AS WELL AS DOWNWIND LOCALES TO THEIR SOUTH. ACCUMULATIONS IN EXCESS OF 15 CENTIMETRES ARE LIKELY TONIGHT AND AGAIN FRIDAY. BARRIE WILL NOT SEE MUCH IN THE WAY OF SQUALLS UNTIL FRIDAY AFTERNOON. MOTORISTS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR DANGEROUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO SUDDEN ZERO VISIBILITY AND WHITEOUT CONDITIONS IN BURSTS OF VERY HEAVY SNOW AS WELL AS HEAVY ACCUMULATION.

It's only Autumn!

Oh no EMm, it's too early to have that much snow. Luckily we haven't had any yet. We are supposed to have a really hard rainstorm tomorrow but no snow. Sorry, Emm.  Have some hot chocolate and put your feet up and relax. Oh heck forget the hot chocolate, go straight for the margarita with extra tequila

Has it stopped snowing now EMm? I hope so.  How are you liking your new hours at work?  I remember when I switched from evenings to days, it took a bit for me to adjust to it. It was so frustrating because my errands took so much longer than when I was able to do my shopping at midnight or run to the bank in the morning.  Now I won't go back to evenings for any reason unless I am desparate

We got 9 inches from the latest storm.  That puts us now at 16 inches this year and well ahead of last year when we set the record for snow amounts.  To the global warming experts bring your a$$ to Wisconsin and tell us all about it.  Please bring heat with you!

LOL Bubu!  You'd be amazed what happens here in the south when even a "dusting" is predicted!  There's a mad dash to the stores for batteries, milk, bread, etc.  You know, to store up for the great "blizzard"! LOL!!

LOL they do that here in the north too,Sandy, even though we are used to it. It must be hard in the South because they aren't really prepared for it since it isn't expected to happen.

Well it's official, they shut the city down last night...no school for anyone today.  We don't have a lot of snow but the roads are solid ice.  I hate this...just give me regular snow.
