Glittering Cattails
From the book, Simply Christmas

Transform plain cattails into decorations that add sparkle to your home.

Bring the beauty of nature into your holiday decorating by creating this beautiful arrangement made from painted cattails and fresh greens. Choose a container that complements your color scheme and display the arrangement as a centerpiece or as an entry bouquet.

What You Need:
Glittering CattailspopUp Image
Blue glitter makes these natural
wonders shimmer like snow.
  • Cattails
  • Decoupage medium
  • Small paintbrush
  • Glitter in desired color
  • Greens
  • Large vase or pail
  • Ribbon
  • Christmas ornament

Instructions:

1. To make the cattails glitter, paint a coat of decoupage medium on the cattail head.

2. Sprinkle glitter on the head and let it dry. The decoupage medium will also act as a sealant and prevent the heads from popping.

3. Arrange the cattails with greens in a large vase or pail.

4. Tie a ribbon and an ornament around the container. You can add water to the container to keep the greens fresher, but the cattails require no water.
