Dried Floral Wreath
By Christina Nielson of Crafts Magazine

Use this basic technique to create stunning wreaths for any season.

Basic Wreath Instructions:

step 1

Cover your work surface with newspaper.

step 2

Cut the hydrangea heads into small clusters.

step 3

Cut the stems from all the flowers, except the globe amaranth.

step 4

Working in one section at a time, glue a thin, even layer of moss to the front and sides of the wreath.

step 5

Adhere the dahlias, spacing them evenly on the front of the wreath.

step 6

Adhere the hydrangea clusters in a zig-zag pattern around the wreath.

step 7

Trim the globe amaranth stems to 2-3" long, leaving several flower heads attached to each stem. Arrange and attach the flowers in a zig-zag pattern around the hydrangeas.

step 8

Cut the delphinium and salvia into 3-4" pieces, then adhere them evenly around the wreath, filling in the empty spaces.

step 9

Arrange the ribbon into a looped bow and wire it to the wreath. Secure with glue if necessary.

step 10

Use the remaining flowers to fill in any gaps and cover the sides of the wreath.

step 11

Spray the wreath with dried floral spray or aerosol hairspray to preserve your wreath, if desired. Note: Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area.

Variations:
For a brighter wreath, use dried sunflowers and brown-eyed susans, combined with yellow and natural German statice, hydrangea, and yellow rosebuds. Experiment by cutting and drying several varieties of flowers to determine which retain the best shape and color. To expand your selection, use flowers from your friends' and neighbors' gardens as well.
