Pinecone and Hollyberry Wreath By Kristen Reynolds of Crafts Magazine
With a collection of pine cones and bright red holly berry, you can turn a plain pine wreath into a festive decoration for the holiday season.
Make the Wreath Fluff the branches of the wreath and arrange them as desired.
Hot glue 6" lengths of floral wire to the bottom of each pinecone. Attach the pinecones randomly to the wreath with the wire.
Attach the berries to the wreath in the same way you attached the pinecones. Note: If the wreath will be exposed to wind or a lot of movement, secure the berries with an extra piece of wire.
Make the Bow Hold the two lengths of ribbon together, allowing the tails of the thinner ribbon to extend past the tail of the wide ribbon a few inches. Note: Pin the ribbons together at the ends.
Measure the ribbons and mark each measurement with straight pins (see Figure a).
Pinch the first and second marks together with your thumb and forefinger. Loop the next 8" mark to the center and hold it in place (see Figure b). Note: Make sure the thinner ribbon is on top of the wide ribbon so you can see it.
Repeat with the other five marks (see Figure c). Note: Each time you loop the ribbon to the center mark, twist it so the right side is facing out.
Wrap an 8" length of wire tightly around the center point (where you have been holding the bow), and twist the wire ends to hold. Note: Do not trim away the excess wire.
Fluff and shape the bow loops as desired. Trim the ends of the ribbons, keeping the thinner ribbon a few inches longer than the thicker ribbon.
Attach the bow to the top of the wreath with the excess wire from the center.
Look for the most realistic pine you can find when purchasing an artificial wreath.
Be creative if you can't find a wreath that looks the way you want. Attach a swag, pieces of a garland, or pine picks to a round wire base with floral wire to achieve the desired look.
Use berries from a garland or pick and clip them with wire cutters to find the most appropriate size for your wreath.
