Making stars: Enlarge star pattern to desired size and transfer to thin cardboard. Cut out to use as a template. Trace star onto wrong side of gold paper. Mark center point. Use craft knife and straight edge to cut out. Stamp designs with gold paint or paint small dots with the handle of a fine paintbrush on right side of gold paper. Let dry. Place star wrong side up on corrugated cardboard. Use ruler and stylus to score down the center of each point to center of star. Turn star right side facing and score a line from between points to center point. Fold star slightly along score lines to make a three-dimensional star. Using push pin, poke holes along score lines or around the outside edges of star. Sew beads and sequins in the center of stars. Sew a hanger from one point of star.
Making topper: Make three stars of different sizes. Layer the three stars together, skewing each one slightly and glue together. Cut a 20" length of ribbon. Fold in half crosswise and glue fold to the center of wrong side of star for tying onto tree. Cut long lengths of ribbon and glue one end to wrong side of star to cascade down tree.
