Size: 36" square

Yarn: 24 oz worsted-weight in varied colors or 1 skein each Bernat Super Value Bright Yellow, Kelly and Royal, Caron Simply Soft Red and Red Violet, Red Heart Kids Crayon (multicolored) and Orange, and Lion Brand Baby Soft Aqua; 2 skeins Lion Brand Baby Soft Buttercup

Knitting Needles: size 7 (4.5 mm) or size that gives you the correct gauge

Crochet Hook: size G/6 (4.5 mm)

Guage: 5 sts = 1" in pattern. Each square = 6". Work Lion Brand Baby Soft holding 2 strands together.

Stitch Patterns:

Note:
Since patterns C, D, and E draw in slightly, 2 extra stitches have been added so that all squares will finish the same size. To help keep your place, mark right side of work (pattern Row 1).

Abbreviations:
K Knit
P Purl
dc double crochet
st stitch

A. Garter Stitch:
Cast on 30 sts. K every row until length measures 6". Bind off.

B. Stockonette Stitch:
Cast on 30 sts. K one row, P one row alternately until length measures 6". Bind off.

C. Moss Stitch:
Cast on 32 sts.
Rows 1 and 2: *K 1, P 1, repeat from * across.
Rows 3 and 4: *P 1, K 1, repeat from * across.
Repeat these 4 rows until length measures 6". Bind off in pattern.

D. Double Seed Stitch:
Cast on 32 sts.
Rows 1 and 2: *K 2, P 2, repeat from * across.
Rows 3 and 4: *P 2, K 2, repeat from * across.
Repeat these 4 rows until length measures 6". Bind off in pattern.

E. Basketweave:
Cast on 32 sts.
Row 1: *P 6, K 2, repeat from * across.
Row 2: *P 2, K 6, repeat from * across.
Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Rows 1 and 2.
Row 5: P 2, *K 2, P 6, repeat from * across, ending last repeat P 4.
Row 6: K 4, *P 2, K 6, repeat from * across, ending last repeat K 2.
Rows 7 and 8: Repeat Rows 5 and 6.
Repeat these 8 rows until length measures 6". Bind off in pattern.

Instructions:
Make 5 squares each in patterns A, B, C, D and E or any combination of 25. For colors, work 4 royal, 4 yellow, 4 crayon, 3 red, 3 orange, 3 kelly, 2 aqua and 2 violet.

Assembly:
Weave in ends. With 2 strands of Buttercup held together, crochet dc around each square, spacing stitches to keep edge flat and working 3 dc in each corner. Lay out squares in 5 rows of 5, arranging colors as you like. To join, butt edges of squares and sew together through back loops in 5 horizontal strips using border color. Sew strips together. Block lightly (do not steam synthetic yarns: pin to size, spritz lightly or cover with a damp towel; let dry).
