Pretty Capelet to Knit and Crochet

As the temperature rises, the nights still remain cool. A terrific alternative to the cardigan, this knitted and crocheted capelet is the perfect accessory to throw over your shoulders when wearing lightweight tops and dresses.

MATERIALS
Dream by Moda Dea/Coats & Clark, 13/4oz/50g balls, each approx 93yd/85m (nylon/acrylic)
5 balls #3705 blush
One pair size 10 (6mm) needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Size 10 (6mm) circular needle, 24"/60cm long
Size G/6 (4mm) crochet hook
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Around bottom of cape approx 54"/137cm
Length from shoulder to bottom edge approx 14"/35.5cm
GAUGE
14 sts and 20 rows over St st using size 10 (6mm) needles.
TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
Note
Capelet is worked in one piece from bottom edge to shoulder.
CAPELET
With circular needle, cast on 186 sts. Work in St st for 5"/12.5cm, end with a RS row.
Next row (WS) P13, [pm, p23] 3 times, pm, p22, [pm, p23] 3 times, pm, p13.
COLLAR AND SHOULDER SHAPING
Row 1 (RS) K 1, inc 1 purlwise for beg of collar shaping, *k to 2 sts before marker, ssk, sl marker, k2tog; rep from * 7 times more, k to 2 sts before end of row, inc 1 purlwise for beg of opposite collar shaping, k1�?6 dec and 2 inc made�?72 sts.
Row 2 K3, p to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 3 K1, p2, k to last 3 sts, p2, k1.
Row 4 Rep row 2.
Row 5 K1, inc 1 purlwise, p1, k to last 3 sts, p1, inc 1 purlwise, k1�?74 sts.
Row 6 K4, p to last 4 sts, k4.
Row 7 (dec row) K1, p3, *k to 2 sts before first marker, ssk, sl marker, k2tog; rep from * 7 times more, k to 4 sts before end of row, p3, k1�?6 sts dec�?58 sts.
Rep dec row every 6th row 5 times more, AT SAME TIME, inc 1 st (purlwise on RS rows, knitwise on WS rows) after first st and before last st on every 4th row 5 times more, every 3rd row 3 times and every other row 6 times, end with a WS row�?06 sts.
Final dec row (RS) K1, p17, [k to 2 sts before next marker, ssk, sl marker] 4 times, [k to next marker, sl marker, k2tog] 4 times, p17, k1�?8 sts (1 edge st, 17 collar sts, 62 back neck sts, 17 collar sts, 1 edge st).
Next row Change to straight needles and work across edge st and collar sts as established, join new ball of yarn, bind off center 62 sts, work across collar sts and edge st.
Work each side separately on straight needles in pat as established until collar pieces are long enough to meet at center back neck, slightly stretched. Bind off.
FINISHING
Sew collar seam; sew collar to back neck of capelet.
Edging
With crochet hook and knit side of capelet facing, join yarn with sl st at beg of collar shaping on left front; working toward bottom of capelet, work *(sc, ch 8, sc) in next st or row, ch 8; rep from * along left front, bottom edge and right front to beg of collar. Fasten off. With knit side of collar facing, join yarn with sl st at beg of collar shaping on left front and work same edging around outside edge of collar. Fasten off.
Ties (make 2)
With crochet hook and 2 strands of yarn held tog, ch 66. Cut 1 strand, leaving a 3"/7.5cm end.
Flower
Cont with single strand, work sc into last 2-strand ch made, (ch 8, sc) 5 times in same ch, (ch 8, sc) twice in next 2-strand ch st, ch 8, (sc, ch 8, sc) in opposite side of same 2-strand ch as first sc of flower, ch 8, join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off. Sew beg end of 2-strand chain to backside of flower to form a lp. Weave in yarn end.
Join tie to capelet
Insert hook from WS to RS of cape just below beg of collar shaping, pick up lp end of tie and pull to WS, insert flower end through lp and pull flower end to tighten. Join rem tie in same way to opposite side of collar. D
