Latest Looks in Skiwear

Vibrant colors for the slopesEuropean Dazzle and North American Tradition

Brands and colors in the European market are often driven by North America and what takes place in ski resorts across the western U.S. and Canada. Most big brands are based out of the California market.

In the more mature market, there is a distinct difference in the women's skiwear between North America and Europe. North Americans are usually more traditional preferring to wear outfits like a white one-piece with black and white trim while someone in Europe could possibly lean towards navy blue with embroidery and fancy belts. Embroidery, mink fur trimmed colors and jeweled belts are the European trademark in this age category.

Colors tend to be more conservative and traditional in North America, and more influenced by fashion in Europe. The more mature skiers tend to pay less attention to the technical aspect of fabric, while the younger audience tends to be more concerned about waterproof technicalities.

Vibrant, Youthful Colors

The focus of skiwear is segmented towards the 20 - 35 year old consumers who shape the trends. They gravitate towards athletic, playful and primary colors. Popular colors for women's clothing are cool shades like chartruse (bolder lime green), powder blues, other light blues and whites. To make a bold expression some choose vibrant outfits or trim of tangerine orange, fire engine red or brick red. Colors are chosen for both on and off the slopes.

Breathable Fabric

Stretch and waterproof breathables are the cornerstone of the industry. These fabrics prevent water droplets from entering the jacket. Insulations are important. Outfits can be purchased as a shell with removable insulation. Those in the east costs typically require more padding and those in the west.

Fitness Shows

Athletes want to accentuate their physical fitness and tend to choose outfits that fit close to the body but still allow for movement. Unlike the bulky jackets of years past, this year's look is more tapered, shaped and fitted.

Update the Past with Accessories

Eyewear is one of the most fashionable accessories and there are many brands to choose from. Helmets and hats by popular surf-companies (like Roxie and Quicksilver) are showing up on the slops and many companies are carrying lines of "after-ski" items such as sunscreens and face creams with glitter.

Current fashion trends allow great freedom of expression. Feel free to have fun in the choices you make as you choose your winter apparel - even if you have no intention of heading out to the slopes.
