Five Ways to Wear a Tank
By Lisa Kovalovich
From the beach to the office, a good tank might be the most versatile piece in your summer wardrobe.
Tank tops are naturals for warm weather: they keep you cool, can be paired with other pieces, and look trendy or classic, depending on how you wear them. Check out five hot ideas:
Under a jacket. Make a tank businesslike (and keep cool on warm days) by slipping one under a classic blazer. Go for a tank in a fine-gauge cotton with a simple scoop neck for a professional look. Three Dots Tank Girl tee ($42) is substantial enough to make you feel covered at the office.
Layered under a blouse. To go casual, wear a tank under a basic button-down blouse, leaving as many buttons undone as you wish. Roll up the sleeves for summery style.
Over or under another tank. Mix two tanks with different details for a funky look. Choose a sporty tank to go under one edged in lace, or a striped tank over a solid one. The Gap's retro chest-striped favorite cami ($16.50) is a perfect choice over another tank.
Atop pants for evening. Juxtapose formality with sportiness by wearing a tank with tuxedo pants, chandelier earrings, and strappy heels. J. Crew's favorite tank ($12.50) won't compete with dressier evening pieces.
With a flouncy, full skirt. Soften the girlie vibe of this season's full skirts by pairing one with a basic tank in a complementary color. Or go with the flirty vibe by pairing your skirt with a tank with ribbon, lace, or floral detailing, like the Mixit Print Tank ($10) shown above, available at JCPenney.
