Stop, Look, Listen
Leaders need to develop a skilled awareness of their effect on the group. Here are three important ways in which leaders can increase their sensitivity.
STOP: Learn to stop on time. Do it out of respect for others. People will turn you off when you go beyond the scheduled time.
LOOK: As you teach, are you making eye contact with people in the group? Are they making eye contact with you? Are they distracted staring off into space? Are they looking at the clock or yawning? Are they engaged and asking questions? Observe their reaction when others talk.
LISTEN: Is your voice the only you hear? Have you been hearing it for a long time? If you are too wordy, you’ll lose the attention and respect of the group.
