Breed Profile: Meet the Collie July 31, 2008

Thanks to Lassie, television's wonder dog, few breeds are as recognizable as the collie. Friendly and playful, these dogs get along well with almost everyone, including children, strangers, and other dogs and pets. However, they prefer to stay close to their families and can become anxious when apart from them for too long. Collie puppies are highly intelligent and easy to train but can be a bit sensitive and stubborn, so they respond best to gentle training. Since, traditionally, collies are herding dogs, puppies often lightly nip at the heels of their owners in an attempt to round them up. Check local shelters or rescue groups for dogs of this breed.
