Miracles Happen

A friend of mine once said, "Miracles happen, even though we might not realize they are happening." I could not agree more. God can work in many mysterious ways. Some people believe miracles are unexpected and seemingly impossible events that don't happen very often, but there are multitudes of stories about miracles.

I once heard about a girl named Julie and her brother, Jared, who had cystic fibrosis. Her parents lived a life separate from faith and with their son's illness, they seemed to think it confirmed their non-belief because God was not helping Jared.
Jared became very sick and had to be placed in the hospital. The doctors did not think he would live and they basically told his parents that there was no chance for him. Julie's parents went to the cafeteria but Julie remained in the room with Jared. While her parents were at the cafeteria, Julie kept praying to God, asking that He spare Jared’s life. Julie heard someone enter the room. It was a man dressed in janitorial clothing with a mop and bucket of water. There was something about him, his smile was gentle and his voice soft. He said he had something to tell her, a message from God. He told Julie her brother was going to live. As Julie had many other questions flash through her mind, she ran out in the hallway to find the janitor. He was not in sight. She checked at the nurses' station to find the man. They said it could not be one of the janitors because they all left three hours ago! The doctor then came to tell Julie that a miracle had happened. Ten minutes ago it looked like Jared was not going to make it and now his lungs were much better. Was this an angel who visited Julie?

My grandfather told me of a story about a great sign that appeared during the first year of St. Cyril's episcopate in Jerusalem. During this period of time, the relationship of Christ to God the Father had been placed in question. In a letter to the Roman Emperor, St. Cyril wrote, about a great luminous cross that appeared in the heavens. It was seen, not by one or two persons, but clearly and evidently by the whole city. This was not, as might be thought, a fancy-bred and transient appearance, but it continued several hours together. It was said to be visible to the eyes and brighter than the sun. The whole city, penetrated alike with awe and with joy at this portent, ran immediately to the church, all with one voice giving praise to God. It is said that many church historians like Socrates, Solomon, and others also wrote of this apparition.

Another example of God's personal care happened to me when I was traveling on a highway. Something or Someone said to me, "get off this highway". I don't think it was audible but I knew it was a command and so I took the next off ramp. I just stopped and parked. Soon after, I heard sirens and horns. I found out later that there was terrible accident that happened just a mile past the place I had gotten off the highway. Cars were piled up everywhere and ambulances were taking people to the hospital. The police ushered traffic around the accident. I later learned that several people were killed and many others were injured. To this day, I believe that God spoke to me and I am glad that I obeyed His voice. It probably saved my life and I will be forever grateful. One should always be in tune to that voice of God because He really does care and He will watch out for His children.

I could go on and on with stories of miracles that I have heard of or experienced over the years. People experience miracles every day and do not even realize the divine intervention. Who knows what’s going on behind the scenes? Only heaven knows.

God Bless you all!!
