A Winter Surprise
Mother Nature spreads her winter blanket of white
As we sleep restfully through the night.
In the morning, all looks clean and bright;
What a wondrous sight!
Then we dress to leave for school.
The temps are definitely chiller than cool.
Bundling up with hat and gloves ?I’m no fool;
Yet I dream of summers at the beach or beside the pool.
Yes, there is a bit of ice.
And yes, I slip once or twice --
Not falling would be rather nice
For a broken hip would be the price!
Ah, what did I hear?
Did they say no electric for the school here?
And schools are closed far and near?
Surprise! I get to go back home, my dear!
