Take Five: Martha Williamson
Touched by an Angel executive producer and head writer, Martha Williamson, has a secret to her hit TV drama's success: "We create a place every Sunday night where God's honored." Another place Martha wanted God honored was in her wedding. She got married for the first time at the age of 42. Her wedding experience prompted her to write Inviting God to Your Wedding (Harmony Books), the first in a series of books she'll author on bringing God into every day life. Here's what Martha had to share with TCW.
How do you keep a vibrant faith?
The best thing my husband, Jon, and I do is pray every morning—before we even get out of bed. Once you're up to start the coffee, it's all over. At the end of the day, we take inventory with God and thank him for what he did in our lives that day.
Any advice for singles?
If you think your life won't begin until you get married, it won't. I wasted a lot of days sitting around wondering why any men hadn't realized what a marvelous catch I was.
How'd you work through that?
When I was 36, I wrote a letter to God, listing all the qualities I wanted in a mate. Next I said, "God, I'm not holding you to these, but here's what I want. Now I'm giving this list to you."
Are you your worst critic?
I've always been sensitive, so I feel badly when I fail to please everybody. But when you try to keep everyone happy, you get virtually nothing accomplished! Now I focus on keeping God happy. Life's much better that way!
