Has anyone heard from Emmy? Reports are saying that large areas of Baton Rouge are without power - and may be that way for awhile. I can't even imagine what they are going through. Hope she & her critters & her property are OK.

I was on the phone with Emmy for almost 2 hours during the worst of the storm and after it was past.  She was sitting on the floor in the dark, attached to her land line telephone.  The entire Parish is/was without power, but she and Raz were all right.

She was sure that the yard was a disaster, but the house was in good shape.

I expect to talk to her later today and will pass on any posts.  I know that she will appreciate your kind thoughts Lynn.

This is good news that Emmy is fine. Please post as you hear more.  All of our hotels were filled last weekend. Tuesday a man from Houston was trying to clean his windshield with a razor blade in front of my shop. I offered him some windshield fluid and some wipes but he just wanted directions to Collins Street Bakery and a good place to eat. I gave him both but wanted to do more. jeanne

Wow, I'm surprised her land line phone held up through all of that. Glad she's OK. Hope her property didn't sustain too much damage & hope she has electricity soon! That has to be the worst!! Keep us posted!

Emmy is having a very hard time coping without electricity.  She has relatives who do have theirs back but won't go and stay with them because of Raz.  She does go over for meals now and then.  She has no damage to the house so it's just being without A/C and lights that is getting to her.  I pray that Ike leaves her alone!!  Apparently Gustov is the first Hurricane in her lifetime that has hit Baton Rouge this hard so she has no experience to fall back on.  Hopefully she will be able to get a generator before any others hit that far inland again.  It is frustrating to have areas around her being worked on without anything being done in her area.
We spent Friday getting ready for Hanna (pretty strange when you think that I'll spend next weekend getting ready for Hannah's arrival from England by way of Mima's event) to make landfall a few miles south of us on Saturday.  It was pretty wet and quite windy Friday night and all day Saturday(worst gusts to 75 MPH ~ Hanna has a huge footprint!), but not as bad as expected and we didn't lose our electricity thistime, and my post Isabel trees are still standing.  Today the sun is out and we are drying out.  I hope to be able to get yard things out of the screened porch before English Hannah arrives.

The major worry for both the gulf States and the Eastern Seacoast is IKE!

At the moment it looks like the Keys are in the most danger.  Ike is a Cat 4 at the moment and it looks like Cuba is going to really get it.  It could be worse than Andrew.  If it doesn't hicup it could head straight for the Gulf Coast, if it does, we could be in big trouble.

As all hurricane possible states know, it isn't safe to stand down until the very last minute.

Hi, my friends.  Thank you all and Catie, thank you for keeping all informed.  I wrote this yesterday, but was not able to get back to all the boards.  Will write again later.  Still cleaning up and have PT today and must pick up more essentials as some grocery stores are opening for us.
Hi Guys,

I'm safe and sound ...at least bodily.  The only damage here was to my body's thermostat.  :o)  I lost my sense of humor on about day 3 or 4 without power, but glad to say that I regained BOTH yesterday.  YEAH!!!!    It didn't take them anytime once they got to work on my street ...and it was 3 trucks from Missouri that got the job done.  The help here has been tremendous.  Electric companies from all over the USA and Canada have been seen working all day and throughout the night.   This one caused damage state-wide with gusts up to 91mph.  I've lived here all my life and have NEVER seen anything like Gustav.  Tens of thousands of our 100 yr. old + oaks were uprooted and fell on power lines through out the state.  All of these had to been removed to restore the power.  I lost only one tree ... it is a pear that split down the middle and was trimmed and braced until the tree guy can get back to it for removal.

I was in the dark for 7 days ...the longest I can remember.  National news is not covering the worse of it ....many parts of the state are still considered disaster areas and will be without power for possibly weeks to come.  I live in Baton Rouge, which is the capital of LA.   Everything that I've seen so far (we are under curfew) just going to my cousin's for meals and ice, etc. looks like a war zone.
None of the traffic lights were working for a few days and tempers were flying.  Most of the streets were not passable in any case.  Now most have been fixed.
Our governor insisted on "power" first and then clean up.  I thank him for that.

I am most grateful to have come through in good condition.  I am also happy to hear that Jane and Annie came through it safely.  Thanks for the updates.  We all continue to pray the IKE will weaken enough not to do any major harm along the coastal areas.

Stay safe everyone and keep those good thoughts and prayers coming until this hurricane season ends.  Thank you all again.

Emmy
PS ... Ras (my 13 yr. old Himilayan)  is fine also.  He, of course, was nervous before the storm got here.  Thank goodness cats can see very well in the dark because I could never figure out how to connect a flashlight to him.

Hello just to let you all know. Everything is ok with me not that any of you remember me. But all we have is no electricity other than that all is well. We are in Dallas with my daughter enjoying electricity. Will return when electric is back on.

Glad to hear that dodi .  I drove to Dallas Monday and the highway was full going south . Convoys of electric highwire trucks head south toward Houston. I must have seen 50 or more. jeanne

Being in Houston we got a bad blow from Ike but managed to hang on and didn't sail away.  lol  Lots of tree limbs (big ones!) down but basically no damage to the house.  Yea.  Power has been restored after being without for three days but have to wait to get someone out to fix the tv dish as it got messed up.  Our street is the only ones with power in our neighborhood so we were very lucky.  I've been through 4 really bad hurricanes but this is by and far the worst.  Moved very slow and did alot of damage.

I'm on Martha's Vineyard and Hurricane Kyle is headed up the coast.  We should only get Tropical Storm conditions thank goodness.  It's been raing really hard for days so there may be some old trees uprooted.  We've had worse Nor'Easters. ~Jacquie
