Hi All,

We're getting close to that time of year and I just wondered whether any of you collect Christmas ornaments.

Over the years I've picked up a few of the Radkos and Pollonaise (sp?) glass ornaments that I like. My wife also gets a dated Waterford every year, but usually after Christmas when they are on sale (we never have the current year's on display at Christmas.) I think it's fun to have a collectible that you can pull out every year for the Holiday Season decor.

Recently I stumbled upon a lady who makes handmade Christmas ornaments that I think are absolutely wonderful. Her name is Pam. She models, paints and signs each one so they are truly unique and original. They look and feel kind of paper mache (she told me what she uses but I forgot what it is called) and are molded around a glass ball in the middle. Anyway if you want to check them out her web site is http://www.ornamentalley.com/ . I'll tell you that they all look good in the photos, but they are truly amazing when you see and hold one. They are all textured and antiqued to give them the feeling of an old heirloom.

They are all reasonably priced too, $15 - $25. I bought several and I think they are really really cool. She is just getting started with these and has not really marketed herself at all. She told me most are sold to friends and family, but she has just put up this web site. Anyway just wanted to share my discovery with anyone else out there who may collect ornaments. I think they would also make a great gift item for the Holidays.

So does anyone else collect ornaments and if so what type and how do you do it? Do you buy one or a few every year? Do you try to stay in one style thematically or do you mix and match styles? Just curious.

Christian

Hi Christian!
Thanks for sharing the link to the website. Those are really neat looking ornaments. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the polar bear. The crab looks cute too but I am not sure how that one would look on my tree. I have collected  some ornaments over the years and have some from "way back when" that were given to me as a child. I always think that ornaments make GREAT gifts for  my family that can be cherished over the years. Back when my oldest son was 1 we got him his first ornament to hang on the tree and then each year after that we take the boys to pick out an ornament ( anything goes  which can be scary at times LOL remember Jim Carey~The Mask)  . I am thinking this year for my nine year old he will pick something Harry Potter and Mike my 15 year old well since he turned 15 last week( and is dying to go get his driving permit) he will probably be thinking cars!!! Our tree is never one theme. I also saved all the ornament the kids made since preschool and hang them on the tree each year!  Maybe we can all posts pictures after they are up !!! Nice thread Thanks for sharing!!! ~~~Berna:)

Hi Christian,
Great thread, as usual I'm late. I collect Hallmark ornaments and I stay with animal themes. I always get several of the current year one for me and one for my husband (like he really cares, but it's a good excuse to get two instead of one  )  In years past my family has added to the collection for us too. The last few years I've bought the woodland friends Santa series because of the animals and the detailing on them. I've been scouting Ebay for retired ornaments and I've found a few that have been pretty reasonable in price. If this keeps up I will have to go to collectors anon just after I buy a bigger tree!
   Hope your Xmas was wonderful!
