The thought of Hadley Harper winning the women's championship for the second time was not just a long shot. In fact it was nothing close to a long shot it was something that was very real and very possible. Sure some people didn't want it to happen, many thought Hadley had an ego that needed a little adjusting but to Hadley that was far from the truth. Hadley didn't care what people thought though because she certainly wasn't there to please a bunch of other people. To her the only important thing was pleasing herself and making herself look good. She didn't care if the fans loved her or if her opponents liked her. She didn't need any of that to make her a winner. Hell she had done good by herself so far hadn't she? Hadley had a plan in mind, one that would make sure that people knew that she wasn't playing nice. Then again had she ever? There was
New York City
8:32 a.m.
Hadley wrapped her arms over herself closing her coat even more. The air was brisk and the wind had a mind of its own. Hadley stared blankly to what was in front of her. In all her years on the force she hadn't seen such things like these. It was almost mind boggling what was the real motive behind all of this, what exactly did this women want that would make such a horror for all the others? Had they gotten in her way? Was she going to look for new victims? Hadley blinked quickly it was the first time she had since she had arrived on the scene. She could see the blood stains still indented into the cement. The rain from the night before wasn't even able to rid the city of the blood. It had been raining all day in fact since last night. There wasn't a way to tell when the murders began all she knew was that it was something the New York police department hadn't seen in a long while. Hadley couldn't even blink again it was all too unusual. So unusual that she hadn't even grabbed an Umbrella before coming downtown to see this "massacre". On that many said she wouldn't be able to believe. Her hair had been damped down from all of the rain, not that it mattered she had just rolled out of bed anyways. The scene that sat in front of Hadley was such an unsettling thing that they had completely blocked off the area with tall make-shift walls in order to keep on lookers from peering in to see what all the talk was about. They had tried to keep it under wraps until they could figure out who did it, but of course horrible news spread fast. Hadley took a huge gulp of air in almost having to gain the courage to walk closer to the pile of bodies.
Hadley finally looked around letting her eyes off of what was in front of her. She began to move forward looking around as the police officers and detectives scurried trying to get the evidence they needed before the rain took control of it. There wasn't much to do with the bodies though, after all they were much more focused on the one that survived. Four women, including the survivor, were stripped of their clothes down to their underwear and each one of them had been messed with. Not in the sexual sense, but their faces and their bodies had been mangled and dismembered. The question was how did it all tye together. What did these women have in common and what could the possible motivation be for something like this. Those questions would hopefully be answered if the survivor survived her surgery. That was all they had to go on so far, just a hope that this survivor would wake up and be able to give them all the answers. The only answers they had right know is knowing that it was a woman, and who knows how they even got that information. Obviously it was a desperate woman one that would stop at nothing to make things right for herself and worse for others. One that wasn't exactly right in the head.
Hadley squatted down to get a better look at what she had been examining from far away. It was a diamond bracelet. It hung on still to a sawed off wrist. One obviously belonging to a victim. It was covered in blood but it still shined. Hadley wanted to pick it up and look more at it but she knew she couldn't. She looked around for a second and opened up her coat which wasn't keeping her warm anymore in the least. She grabbed out a pen from her inside pocket and twisted the bracelet around it as it fell off of the wrist. Her partner Mark Jones walked up behind her, he held an umbrella over his head and his other hand was shoved into his pocket. He leaned down beside her and Hadley noticed the rain had stopped beating down on her head. She looked over and jumped a little setting the bracelet back down. She pushed herself up off the ground standing straight up to meet the gaze of detective Jones who had a rather serious look on his face.
Mark Jones; You're too anxious.
Mark chuckled a little bit to himself. Hadley and him had been working together for the past five years and they had become extremely close. Hadley let a smile appear on her face. That was the sick thing about being a detective, the worst thing in the world could have just happened, but you can still find the motive to smile. It was like another day at the office seeing a murder. However, this time it felt almost personal to Hadley. She looked back down to the bracelet.
Hadley Harper; I can't help it. This just seems so surreal. It's like a sign or something...
It was obvious that Mark had no clue how to react. He instead simply shrugged his shoulders.
Mark Jones; About what? That a rich bitch can get murdered too?
Mark was already sounding a little bitter about it, after all he was only steps away from the crime scene when it happened. It was only three in the morning when the bodies were found stacked on top of each other in between the two apartment buildings. Mark lived in one of the apartments and didn't hear a thing, nor did he hear the shrieks and screams of the women close by.
Hadley Harper; Jones you know this isn't your fault right?
Mark shrugged his shoulders again it was obvious he didn't want to talk about it.
Hadley Harper; Have they found out the survivors name yet?
Mark looked to Hadley and then back down to the bodies.
Mark Jones; Not yet, she hasn't woken up. Her surgery went well though I was told so she should be waking up soon. I'm rather anxious to see what she looks like now and see if she remembers anything. I wanna crack this case open as soon as possible.
Hadley's attention had been drawn back to the bracelet. She then looked back to Mark realizing what he had said.
Hadley Harper; Wait..why are you anxious to see what she looks like.
Mark seemed to be searching for words.
Mark Jones; They could only find half of what she originally had.
The image crossed Hadley's mind and a look of disgust plagued her face. Hadley had seen a woman that was cut in half before, but not one that managed to still be breathing. Hadley's body shivered as a cold wave took over. She started to stand up straight and Jones followed her lead still holding the umbrella over their heads. Another person ran up to the two of them, they were out of breath and held a cell phone in their hands. Hadley's attention focused on the dark haired man.
Dark Haired Man; I just got the call...they..think they've got the suspect!
Hadley and Mark shared a look both smiling towards each other. They then turned their attention back to the eager looking man who seemed to almost be out of breath.
Mark Jones; Anything else?
The man took a second to gather his breath. It must have been his first day on the job.
Dark Haired Man; Oh yes, also that girl that survived has woken up.
Hadley's eyes lit up at the mention of the survivor, that was exactly what she wanted to hear. Sure she wanted to catch the broad that did this but she wanted more than anything to see this girl and to hear the reasons to put the story together and understand it. Hadley turned her gaze onto Mark who in turn looked to her.
Mark Jones; You wanna go to the hospital don't you?
Mark's tone was almost a sarcastic annoyed one. He knew just how curious Hadley was, she had always been that way in fact. That's what made her such a great detective her ability to care that much about little things like bracelets.
Hadley Harper; Yes, I mean she's going to be the link she's going to be able to tell us why all of this happened.
Hadley seemed extremely excited.
Mark Jones; Or she's not going to remember anything. I mean I'm pretty sure the woman that did this would make sure that she can't remember a thing.
Mark rose his eyebrows in the "it could happen" way.
Hadley Harper; She wouldn't have just left one of them to live, she didn't mean to. Making sure that nothing got out would entail making sure each of them was dead, and she didn't do that. Obviously she's new to this. I'd say it's a fit of rage that rushed through her body, she wasn't plotting to do this for long.
Mark Jones; Or maybe she was, maybe she wanted this survivor to have to suffer longer, and her plans were interrupted by the law.
Hadley Harper; She wouldn't have left her to die just because she got interrupted, she would've just shot her something.
Hadley and Mark were obviously getting a little worked up.
Mark Jones; What if she didn't have a gun?
Hadley Harper; Mark...I'm not arguing with you about this, we need to go talk to this girl. Do you know her name?
Hadley turned to the dark haired kid who was still standing there just observing the little quarrel between the two detectives. Little did he know this is what their partnership relied on, the fact that they disagreed on most of the things that were brought to their attention, it helped the other one really see the other side.
Dark Haired Man; I..um..I don't know just yet. I'm sure by the time you get there they will have it from her.
Hadley nodded her head and made a motion to Mark showing that they should go now.
Hadley Harper; Thanks kid, keep up the good work.
Hadley patted his shoulder and her and Mark made their way towards her car away from the crime scene.
New York City Hospital
9:33 a.m.
The made their way to the hospital quickly not wanting to waste any time. Hadley was still soaked from the rain. By now though it had stopped. Hadley and Mark got out of the car and made their way through the hospital parking lot. The automatic doors opened in front of them and they made their way inside walking side by side. Hadley could hear the news playing in the lobby of the bottom floor. All around her were reminders of the deaths that had taken place that morning.
TV Anchor; We are all so sorry to the families of these women. All successful in what they did, we are sad to pronounce, Tapanga Britt, Blaze Inferno, and Sopia McCallister...dead.
They continued to talk, but Hadley couldn't hear their words anymore as she had walked to far from the lobby where all the TVs sat. She made sure to keep herself lined up with Mark who seemed to know where he was going and he should he had brought the survivor here himself after she crawled slowly to the stairs of his apartment building after the killer had fled hearing sirens coming towards her. Mark had almost taken this one to heart, like he really knew this woman. They had finally reached the woman's room. Mark opened up the door gently not wanting to startle the girl. Hadley kept her eyes on the floor, a little afraid of what she might see. She finally looked up to see the woman, half of her face had been covered in a cast and her left leg had a cast on it as well. The girl, to Hadley's surprise, wasn't crying. She in fact didn't even look like she was scared in the least, it was more like an angry look a look that Hadley had seen before, but only in killers.
Mark Jones; How are you?
There was a silence that swept over the room. The girl had a blank stare on her face she didn't seem to want to even look at the detectives and Hadley thought that might be better. She was afraid of what she might see. Finally the girl let out a sarcastic laugh that surprised both Mark and Hadley.
Girl; It's pretty hot isn't it.
Mark and Hadley pretended to not know what the hell she was talking about, but it was obvious as she pointed to the cast that covered her face. She then turned her head towards the two detectives and Hadley stepped a little closer to the girl and was taken back, she felt like she was looking into a reflection. The girl that had survived resembled her to a tee. It was an even more surreal feeling than the one that she had felt back at the scene. Hadley was a little taken back as the girl's eyes met her own. Hadley looked away quickly.
Girl; I guess if you wanna stare that's alright I mean I should get used to it.
Hadley Harper; I didn't mean to..it's just you look like me.
The girl chuckled a little bit to herself.
Girl; I wish I looked like you right now.
There was another awkward silence that fell over the room. The girl looked down to the floor there still were no tears in her eyes, no fear, nothing. She was vacant her blank stare could melt the floor. Mark then reached into his back pocket pulling out a small notepad and opening it up.
Mark Jones; Alright well we need some answers, so if you wouldn't mind answering a few questions we would be very grateful. We wanna catch this woman as soon as possible.
Girl; Yeah no problem.
The girl cleared her throat.
Mark Jones; Alright well I suppose we need to know your name.
Girl; Well shouldn't you guys already know that? You call yourselves detectives.
The girls humor couldn't budge a smile onto their faces.
Girl; Alright tough crowd..that's alright. The name is Hadleah Harpear
Hadley finally took in a deep breath letting go of the fact that they looked so alike. Mark wrote down the girls name as Hadley gained her composure.
Hadley Harper; Do you remember the woman that did this to you?
Hadleah nodded her head.
Hadleah Harpear; It was a girl I know, I can see her face in my mind but I can't put a name to it, all I know is that she had long black hair. That's all I can tell you about it, either I'm trying to block it out or I simply cannot remember what I've done. According to the doctors I woke up thinking I was in a car crash. After they explained stuff to me though a little memory came back. The doctor said that he wouldn't be surprised if I lost some memories of my childhood. After all the bitch cut down deep almost catching my brain.
Hadley already knew this but it made her cringe.
Hadley Harper; You are holding up fine though...right?
Hadley seemed to want to put it lightly. Hadleah's head dropped a little bit but she smiled looking back to Hadley.
Hadleah Harpear; I don't give up detective, no matter what there is going on around me. There has never been a time in my life where I have just stopped caring about thing especially when it comes to my life. I really can't explain it though, I mean I've relied my whole life on my beauty and on my talent so if I even thought about being put in this situation I would tell you that I would want to die..but it seems like my will to fight and my will to not give up has proved me wrong in this situation because I couldn't be happier to be alive and to still be kicking.
Hadley chuckled a little to herself sending a confused look on the faces of Mark and Hadleah.
Hadley Harper; Sorry it's just you're so confident..almost cocky I mean normally when people have near death experiences they just wanna give back, you know look at things in a different light.
Hadleah shrugged her shoulders.
Hadleah Harpear; Yeah well I mean I lived a good life up till now, I don't have regrets about it. Sure I hurt a few people on my way to the top but I got there so I have to be proud of that. I'm not going to change myself just because my life was threatened. Hell don't you think that's exactly what this maniac would want. She wants me to change and be a worse person than I was she wants me to crumble and wish for death. I'm not going to play it like that. I'm going to go on with my life like this never happened. I mean the only thing that I could possibly regret was not winning the pageant for a second time.
Hadley and Mark look at each other quickly.
Mark Jones; Wait..what pageant?
Mark turned back to Hadleah.
Hadleah Harpear; Oh Miss OCW. I won it last year so I was coming back for round two. It's a very rare thing for a woman to win it twice so I wanted to help carve my name into the history books.
Hadley and mark looked to each other again this time with a smile.
Hadley Harper; Wait do you know..well remember the girls that were apart of it?
Hadleah strained herself searching her head for names of the women that were going to take part in the pageant. She took in deep breaths almost getting upset with herself. Hadley finally laid a hand on Hadleah's shoulder to calm her down.
Hadleah Harpear; I can't..I can't remember.
Hadley nodded her head.
Hadley Harper; It's okay we can help you remember.
Hadley looked back to Mark who handed her his notepad as she motioned for it. She flipped it to the front looking for the names of the women that were found dead. Hadley took a deep breath and let out a sigh afraid of how Hadleah would react.
Hadley Harper; Okay..so I'll just name off these women and you can tell me whether or not they were in the pageant with you.
Hadleah nodded her head. Hadley looked down at the notebook clearing her throat.
Hadley Harper; Alright..um we've got Tapanga Britt, Blaze Inferno, and Sophia McCallister.
Hadleah narrowed her eyes as she tried once again to search what was left of her memory for the names of the women that Hadley had just read off. After a few seconds a look spread over Hadleah's face. A look that was a mix of sadness and anger. Her eyes quickly started to flicker back and forth almost as if they matched her thoughts.
Hadleah Harpear; Wait..don't tell me...they're all dead?
There was silence for a second. Mark nodded his head as Hadleah's eyes fell on his. She began to breath harder just thinking about it.
Hadleah Harpear; We were down to the top five. They were going to have a winning next week. How could this have happened?
Hadleah still had no tears in her eyes. Hadley looked back to Mark.
Hadley Harper; Wait there were five of you?
Hadleah Harpear; I should've known this would happen I mean we all wanted it so badly. Here I was thinking I wanted it the most but I mean if someone is openly killing for the chance to win..the only chance...
Mark Jones; What do you mean the only chance?
Mark looked a little confused at Hadleah as he continued to take down notes.
Hadleah Harpear; Well I mean not to be cocky..but everyone knew I was going to win it. People were afriad when they heard I was coming back to the pageant. Most women don't after winning it because they're too old but I was one of the youngest so I felt that I should make my way back to it. I mean I don't enter pageants just to have a good time I become apart of them because I like winning I like getting my name out there and I like being the queen. I like having that on my resume and I'd like to have a two time in front of that. This time there was some better competition but I mean everyone knew where I stood in this pageant everyone knew that it was going to be hard to go up against me.
Hadley looked a little confused.
Hadley Harper; Then why do you suppose you weren't killed first.
Hadleah shrugged her shoulders.
Hadleah Harpear; I don't know. Bad judgment maybe. Or hell maybe she wanted to save me for last. If I were her I would've done the same thing.
Hadleah closed her eyes for a second and then suddenly let out a scream of pain. Hadley and Mark looked at each other not knowing exactly how to react.
Hadleah Harpear; Oh my god I can see it. I can see her...of course she would do this. She wanted me to watch her kill the rest of them. She wanted to make me sit and watch as she took them apart setting me up for what was coming to me. She said they were below us that they were worthless trash not even worth of a shot at the crown. She wanted to show me my fate before she could hand mine to me, like she was god or something. Each girl went out a different way losing a different piece of their body the parts that she said made them look their best. Sophia's eyes, Tapanga's boobs...she wanted to skin off my face. She told me her whole plan and then she told me that the true queen of OCW could now stand up tall. She wanted me gone more than the rest because she knew that no matter what she couldn't beat me. The only way to make sure that she won was to take me out. She just must have over looked the fact that I am so strong willed. Completely unwilling to allow her to take what's truly mine.
Hadleah was breathing harder now still trying to remember more. She finally shook her head trying to rid it from her memory. She looked to the floor again finally tears hitting it.
Hadley Harper; Can you put a name to the face yet?
Hadleah took a second to get herself pulled together. She then looked to Hadley.
Hadleah Harpear; Yeah...Jade Taylor.
Police Station
5:12 p.m.
After Mark and Hadley had spoken to Miss Harpear a little more they made their way to the police station where Miss Taylor was being held. They had found her earlier and finally had the conformation needed to make sure they got the right girl. Hadley sat across from a rather quiet Jade Taylor. Her expression didn't say much, there wasn't remorse regret..nothing it was blank. Hadley didn't even know how to start the questioning. Sure she could ask how? and Why? but those were all too obvious. Plus she seemed like the kinda girl that would have a snappy remark one that was proud of her own distruction. The door opened up and Mark walked in with a large file under his arm. He set it down in front of Jade. Hadley looked at the file then to Jade who looked at the file with a sneer on her face. She yawned almost to hand a slap in the face to both detectives. Mark began to pace behind Hadley who sat still.
Mark Jones; Miss Taylor..where were you this morning, June 7, 2008 from 12:35 a.m. and 3:22 a.m.?
The smile on Jade's face said it all.
Jade Taylor; Oh I think we both know the answer to that detective. I mean after all I left you a whole trail of blood to find me.
She chuckled to herself in a sadistic manor. Hadley who had been looking through the file looked up to Jade.
Hadley Harper; You were set to be in the Miss OCW pageant isn't that right Miss Taylor.
Jade nodded her head.
Hadley Harper; So were all those women you killed isn't that right?
Jade smiled and nodded her head once again.
Jade Taylor; Yes those undeserving excuses for women were supposed to be apart of the pageant as well but it seems to me like there won't be a Miss OCW this year.
Mark Jones; How would it make you feel if Miss Harpear got Miss OCW over you.
There was a dead silence in the room.
Jade Taylor; Hadleah Harpear didn't stand a chance.
Hadley nodded her head sarcastically.
Hadley Harper; So you mean Miss Harpear didn't intimidate you in the least?
Jade shook her head.
Jade Taylor; Hell no! That bitch didn't have any talent. Not to mention I'm the type to intimidate not her. She's the one that deserved to die the most in fact.
Hadley Harper; Really because according to sources she was the sure win for the pageant that would make her a two time pageant queen. How would that have made you feel?
Jade shrugged her shoulders.
Jade Taylor; Whatever. It isn't like I wanted to win in the first place.
Mark Jones; What do you mean?
Jade laughed to herself.
Jade Taylor; I just wanted to make sure those girl's lives were ruined so they realized that beauty isn't just showing your body off.
Hadley Harper; Isn't that Miss Harpear's pholosophy?
Jade shook her head.
Jade Taylor; No..she was the worst of them all.
Mark Jones; So this meant nothing to you, you just killed these women because you wanted to prove a point? Doesn't sound like you have any beauty inside of you either.
Mark folded his arms one under the other as he looked at Jade.
Jade Taylor; That's why I did it. Who cares what you see beauty as.
Hadley Harper; So you're say that because these women wanted to look good you felt you needed to kill them. It had nothing to do with truly wanting to win? You planned it all from the start?
Jade nodded her head.
Mark Jones; Oh well you couldn't have won anyways.
Jade squirmed a little in her chair and became a little uncomfortable from the teasing.
Mark Jones; I mean hell you certainly aren't as good looking as Sophia McCallister and Hadleah Harpear. Plus what would you use for talent when they...
Jade Taylor; I could have done it! I could've been the best and I would've if that bitch Hadleah Harpear hadn't come back into the picture. She just comes in and wins everything and it isn't fair! it isn't fair that she can just stroll into a place and catch the attention of everyone and I'm stuck in the same old second place bullshit that I've had to put up with every year that she's there. I did all of them a favor by killing them and saving them from humiliation from losing to her again, and I don't rerget any of it. My only regret is letting the cunt live. I should've killed her first. But you know what it doesn't matter, she'll never win another beauty pageant with the hidious face she has now..or lack of one. Now..now I can be the best looking the most talent. I can win now.
Hadley and Mark looked to wach other.
Hadley Harper; Miss Taylor do you admit to killing these women and attempting to kill Miss Harpear in order to win the Miss OCW pageant?
Jade Taylor; It was the only way. I had to take away everything that made them beautiful everything that made people look at them and say wow. I had to do it because I had to win. I wanted to make people see that I could do it too that I didn't need to be good at much I could just be normal. I wanted to show them all that I was serious, that they should fear me and they all did. All of them but Hadleah. She didn't even twitch while I made her watch me kill all the rest of them. No amount of cutting or slicing could make her budge and it made me cringe and hurt inside. I just wanted to hurt her and make her realize she wasn't as much as she thought but in the end she was everything she claimed to be and it killed me even more. I just...
All of the sudden Jade's hard exterior broke down and tears flowed from her eyes.
Jade Taylor; I just couldn't compete with someone like her. Someone that is always winning and always on top of everything. I couldn't do it. I couldn't make myself that good.
Jade screamed loudly through her sobbing. Hadley pushed the chair out and got to her feet. She began to walk out of the room with Mark in tow. As the door shut behind them Hadley turned to Mark.
Hadley Harper; That's just pathetic. I've never heard such a thing. She must have really wanted to win.
Mark Jones; Too bad for her it looks like the only contestent truly standing is Hadleah Harpear.
Hadley giggled a little.
Hadley Harper; She must have over looked that.
Mark Jones; Beep! Beep!
Hadley Harper; What?
Mark Jones; Beep! Beep!
Hadley's eyes opened slowly to look at the beeping alarm clock that once was Mark Jones' face. She hit the snooze button and closed her eyes once again just getting ready for her win at Immortality.
