No, they are leagal and readily available and easy to buy. They come in several sizes.

They sell knives like these at the gun shows here all the time.Alot of gas stations sell them as well.

These types of knives are "Prohibited Imports"  in NZ so it's illegal to obtain one by such means.  They seem to be classed as "Offensive Weapons"  according to the police if used for the purpose of attacking someone. 
 
I think it is still legal to possess one here, I may have to make one .

Do you know how to use one of these knives? They can cut up your hand or fingers if not used correctly. Just wonderin.

Its a good idea to practise using these knives when they are blunt or dull.  I found this out the hard way.

Don't bother with these things. there are much better knifes and even if they look flashy to get into "action" they are prone to dropping and you have to practice for them to work for you.
 
I carried one for years because I needed a one handed opener. A thumb opening knife opens quieter, smoother and closer to the body.
 
buy you a real knife and not one of these toys.
