Not these parties
But parties in the wilderness. What constitutes a safe number for a party will depend upon the nature of the country to be traversed and the amount of party gear that can be carried comfortably. However, numbers should normally be not less than four. A party of four is fast, is economical in party gear, and has reasonable strength in river crossings. Should there be a mishap one member can stay with the injured person while two can go for assistance, thereby overcoming the hazards of solo tramping. Because an injured person should not be left alone, a party of four is not self-supporting in the event of an accident.
