Hurricane Ike was upgraded to a category 3 storm by the National Hurricane Center as the storm moves west across the Atlantic.
The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, issued Wednesday evening, put Ike's wind speed at near 115 mph, with higher gusts.
MyFOXHurricane.com's tracking map puts Ike on a path to approach the Florida coast sometime early next week, though storms' paths and strengths can change without warning.
Other storms in the Atlantic, have become less of a threat. Hanna, once a hurricane, now is a tropical storm still scheduled to hit southeastern United States by the end of the week. And Tropical Storm Josephine has weakened east of Ike.
Ike is the fifth hurricane in the Atlantic this season.
