The name Nova Scotia was first applied for on September 19, 1621, but was not fixed on the map until 1713. Nova Scotia borders New Brunswick, the Canso Causeway joins Cape Breton Island with Nova Scotia. It is mostly surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. - Capital - Halifax

- Flag - The flag was the first in the Commonwealth to be authorized by the Royal Charter in 1625. The flag displays the province's Shield of Arms with a blue cross of Saint Andrew.
- Coat of Arms - Motto One defends and the other conquers, it is the oldest in the commonwealth countries. Entwined with the thistle of Scotland at the bottom is the mayflower, which was added in 1929. The Shield represents a unique union of the Royal and National Arms of Scotland, was granted in 1625.
