Remember Who You Are
He thought he had what it would take;
to leave the nest, and not to break
the heart of those that knew he'd make
mistakes that would bring him down.
"Remember who you are". she said
"...who lives inside your heart". she said
"....or you'll stray far, so far". she said,
"...far from the safety of His arms".
He thought he knew enough to know
Who he was, from heart to soul.
Contradictions soon arose,
And slowly falling, he forgot.
"Remember who you are", she said,
"....who lives inside your heart". she said,
"....where comfort's found in arms", she said
"....open, waiting for your return".
He lived the life the world embraced,
yet on his own, the world he faced,
and of it's pleasures. he had his taste
of how bitter-sweet, is selfish pride.
"Remember who you are", she said,
"...who lives inside your heart", she said,
"...or you'll stray far, so far", she said,
"....far from the safety of His arms".
He thought his heart was still the same,
Until he had no one left to blame;
he had finally realized, then sighed with shame,
and remembered who he was.
"Remember who you are", she said,
"....who lives inside your heart", she said,
"....where comfort's found in arms", she said,
"...waiting for your return".
For once, he thought about what she said,
about who HE was, and how HE bled,
and how HE suffered; and died in his stead,
So he could live the life he left. "Remember who you are", she said,
"....who lives inside your heart", she said,
"....and no matter how far you stray", she said,
"...you can always come back home." So he packed his bags with a tear in his eye,
then looked at his world, and said good-bye,
and just couldn't believe that he believed the lie,
that he could succeed apart from HIM. "I remember who I am", he said,
"....and who lives inside my heart", he said,
"....and though hard, so very hard" he said,
'....I've found my way back home".
