EVENTS ARE NOT THE CAUSE OF PAIN...
The young man faced a traumatic event
He was caught in a great mental strain
He thought it the source of the stress that he felt,
And the cause of his anger and pain.
If events were the cause of the feelings, however
No peace, then, could ever be gained.
For whenever the event would be brought to mind,
The pain would be ever sustained.
"What if the event merely triggered my thoughts,
"And my thoughts would control how I feel?
"By accessing the presence of God, I would know
"Best how with the problem to deal."
"I could view the event through spiritual eyes,
"And with conscious thought I would see
"That the event, then, in reality
"Could have no control over me."
