Little Boys
Short or tall, hefty or small
Little rogues, I love them all
Freckled face and ginger hair
Straight or curly, dark or fair
Grin of mischief, angel smile
Temper wild, charm to beguile
Pockets full of stones and string
Apple cores and many things.
Dear unto the hearts of boys
Knights, cowboys, trains and toys
Catching newt and climbing trees
Conkers, marbles, grubby knees
Sports and study, noise and fun
Examinations, matches won.
Youth clubs, barbecues and such
Pop songs with romantic touch
Records, crew cuts, jeans and girls
Thus it is their life unfurls
Maddening at times, it's true
But so often thoughtful, too
Untidy, full of rush and noise
But what would life be
without boys.
