Golden Rainbows
He/she sits there waiting patiently,
sometimes wiping away a tear
Wishing that a visitor would suddenly appear.
Someone to say, How are you?
And greet he/her with a smile
Someone to sit besider him/her and chat
lovingly for awhile.
It's hard for him/her to understand
just what he/she doing there
What happened to his/her family and friends
who used to come and care?
How come he/she feels abandoned
like some old worn out shoe?
What offense has he/she committed?
What bad things did he/she do?
True he/she has a nice clean bed
to sleep in and he/she sheltered from the rain
But there's precious little yearnings
that can ease his/her lonliness and pain.
He/she's only one of so many
In the elder's home today
Who finds the price of longer life
may be too much to pay
The picture could be quickly changed if all of us
would spend
Some will spend time just visiting, a relative
or a friend.
He/she's home yet away from all the things
that once were held so dear
And needs to be reminded that at least
a loved one is near
Do take him/her by the hand and say
How are you? with a happy smile
And sit beside him/her and just love
him/her for awhile.
