Afghanistan
The Transitional Administration in Afghanistan has adopted a new national flag to replace the green, white and black flag of the pre-Taliban government.
The new design echoes an earlier design, being a vertical tricolour of black, red and green with the arms in white on the central red stripe. We are still trying to obtain a detailed image of the new arms, which have been modified to be less war-like (the crossed swords have been removed) and more secular (the shahada has reportedly been removed).
The flag shown below is the simplified version, without the arms, which was used by Hamid Karzai on his recent visit to the USA and UK.
