Although I am like many people out there, lost and looking for answers, I was found. Like most people that find God, I thiink that God found me. Oh, I know that he has always been there, and has always loved me and probably touched my life in millions of ways tring to get my attention. I was one to pray only if I was in trouble or wanted something for selfish reasons. But in one instance, one rainy evening, I believe that God wanted my attention and boy did he get it. This particular day it had been raining all day and it seemed that the sky was a weird mix between black and grey. It was really very erie. I remember so well because this was a part of my life that I felt I didn't have alot of reasons to live. I had lost my job, bills were stacking up and I was going to loose my home and had no where to go. It was the closest to homeless that I have ever been. I had been depressed for a couple of weeks and seemed to always be wondering "why was God doing this to me?" or "what did I do to deserve this?. To that day, I was still not a true beleiver in Christ. It seems that Christ was more a convience when I needed something not a way of life. On this day, I was asked by a friend to pick her up at work. Her car was not running and she needed a ride home. I debated about lying and saying that I was busy but she knew that I wasn't. I told her yes and started on my way. The wind was tretourous and it was rainy very heavy. I slowly made my way across town to where she worked and picker her up. As we made our way back to her apartment, we had to go down a major street. Camelback Road had 3 lanes on either side to accomidate the heavy traffic. And on that day it was bumper to bumper. Some of the details are a little sketchy from here. All I really remember is that we picked up speed as the traffic moved and I was in the middle lane of threr lanes. A suburban cut in front of me and his bumber clipped the front end of my car. I remember spinning in traffic and asking God, "please don't let me die". From witnesses accounts, my car spun through all 6 lanes of traffic and ended up almost in the front picture window of someones home. I remeber the car coming to a stop and a man coming and opening the car door to see if we were ok. I got out of the car and saw the most amazing thing. All six lanes of traffic were dead stopped. Not just stopped, but stopped on either side creating the opening the I spun around in. I knew at that moment that the hand of God was there. I was a believer. I prayed for fogiveness for my sins and asked to be welcomed into the kingdom of God. My life took a wild turn that day and is back on the road to recovery. God is my strength, God is my light and my Savior. |
