So then let us pursue the things which make for
peace and the building up of one another.
Romans 14:19 That deep kind of peace or inner contentment is definitely a gift from God, and our cooperation is necessary before we get it. God gives us the gift of peace but we can pursue things that make us available for peace. The verse does not say we are to pursue peace, but "things which make for peace." We can also help each other receive peace. If we do not have a mail box then the Post Office will not deliver our mail. If our "receptacle" is not available for God to make the delivery, then we miss the gift even though the gift still exists and is available for us. When our minds are clouded with negative emotions, unresolved conflicts and hurts from the past, we are already full, therefore, we have little or no room for love, joy, and peace. Prayer: God, I lay open my life. Please expose my beliefs and attitudes that block peace. I stand opposed to them and pursue the things which make for peace. DEVOTIONALS-L; 1/17/2005
