The Waterboy �?/STRONG>Then God opened [Hagar’s] eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad [Ishmael] a drink.�?(Genesis 21:19).
Adam Sandler may have starred in The Waterboy, but God has a much better story in the Book of Genesis. “After the birth of the son of promise Isaac, Abraham at the behest of Sarah sent the Egyptian maid Hagar away. Hagar and her son Ishmael wandered in the desert of Beersheba with only bread and a skin of water. The boy Ishmael cried out for water, but there was no help in the desert and no water was to be found. After the water in the skin was used up, Hagar placed the boy under one of the shrubs and she went and sat down across from him at a distance of about a bowshot and said to herself, ‘Let me not see the death of the boy.�?So she sat opposite him, and lift up her voice and wept.�?(Genesis 21:15-16). On seeing her tears and the voice of the boy, the angel of God said to Hagar “What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. Arise, lift up the lad and hold him with your hand, for I will make him a great nation.�?Sure enough, thousands of years later the Arabs who are direct descendants of Ishmael, grew to a nation of one billion with not just water wells, but oil wells in the desert which made them rich and powerful. Hollywood would like us to be macho with movies like Boys Don’t Cry but God doesn’t think so. The God who had seen the tears of Hagar and the cry of the little boy Ishmael
is no respecter of persons, He is also seeing your tears and will in due course deliver you from your trials and tribulations. God is full of mercy and compassion, He will wipe
away all your tears and give you beauty for ashes and the oil of joy for mourning (Isaiah 61:3). In the case of Ishmael, the oil of joy is literally petroleum or black gold from
under the desert sands. If you are passing through the valley of tears, don’t murmur or complain by saying God did not see your tears. Forget about Tears For Fears, for God is
promising you in His Word that He will wipe your tears “For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.�?(Revelation 7:17). “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.�?(Revelation 21:4).
