Growing Faith
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other.
2 Thessalonians 1:3
Our faith is not static. It either increases or decreases. God’s will is that it will grow and increase. God’s plan is that we will live nearer to Him today than we did yesterday. God’s desire is that we will trust Him more today than we did yesterday. God wants our faith to be more active and effective and reach out for more today than it did yesterday. This was the case with the church in Thessalonica. It was a new congregation, maybe only a few years old, when Paul wrote his first letter to them. He says that their faith in God had become known everywhere. They had quickly become a model for other believers.
In the second letter to the Thessalonians, Paul thanks God that their faith was growing so mightily. They did not stand still, nor did they go backwards. This is what the Lord wants for your life, as well. We all have both strong and weak sides. We find it easier to believe God in certain areas, whereas other areas are more challenging.
Develop the areas where you are strong. Do not be discouraged over the areas where it is more difficult or where you feel defeated. Instead, allow your strong sides to be the engine that pulls the weaker ones. Nourish your productive areas. Let God’s Word take root in you, and you will see your faith become even stronger.
Faith looks to Jesus, hears his promises, grabs hold of them and hangs on to them until they become reality. The more your faith grows, the more you will see things from God’s perspective, and the more you will see answer to prayer, both in and around you. There is no limit to how much your faith can grow or how much fruit you can produce.
