Jesus in Today’s Church?
How do we model the church of today? Do we follow Acts 2 in every small way? Do we meet every day to hear Apostles speak? Do we sell our assets and give to the weak?
Did the apostles do miracles in their own names? Do we feast with each other in our homes just the same? Are we joyful and happy when we come to our praise? Bending our knees and hands highly raised.
Do the local people know what we are about? Are they drawn to wonder when they here us shout? And does God add numbers day after day? Do we spend time with Him when we come to pray?
The church of today has let tradition take hold To follow our leaders we are most often told An occasional meeting to some seems enough And we gather together electronics and stuff.
We hope to see miracles the Holy Spirit without While relations are fed and brethren stay out We go through the motions and use Jesus name But humility and grace are surely a little lame.
The neighborhood people may be woken by bells But locked in our tombs we wish them not well Then the numbers drop down by sickness and death And a travesty of faith leads our church all bereft.
So turn to the chorus of that wonderful hymn And gratefully welcome God’s Holy Spirit within As we turn our eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face And the form of the church will grow strangely dim In the light of His glory and grace.
