Tiered Tray Decoration

Go with a classic look using ornaments in silver and gold, or try something new to match your decor -- red and black or retro brights. Don't miss our video with more tips and ideas.

Tiered servers are used all the time in catering, but here's a lovely way to use those same servers to display new or vintage ornaments for the holidays.

You really can make your holiday decorations an expression of your decorating personality, as evidenced by these two versions of the same idea.

Our first display gets eye-popping color from a nontraditional color scheme of black, white, and red. It's absolutely stunning, and we made it on a white tiered dish using a variety of shapes and sizes of ornaments.

Notice how some are matte, some shiny, and some beaded or sparkly. That's what you're looking for to make a balanced arrangement. Also, some of the ornaments are round, some enlongated, and some in other shapes like this darling little shoe.

The second arrangement is one we'll make using two sizes of china plates held together by a glass candleholder and some Tacky Wax. Start with the dinner plate on the bottom and set the candleholder in the center.

Next, add garland and large, medium, and small balls. Add the top salad plate and fill it with garland and medium and small balls.

Supplies
  • Multi-tiered tray
  • Variety of ornaments

Instructions
  1. Arrange various ornaments on a multi-leveled tray.
  2. You can make your own tray using 2-3 plates separated by pedestals of glass candleholders or small glasses, secured top and bottom with Tacky Wax or floral clay.
