Spoon Key Hanger

Tools
pencil
nail
scissors
ruler
glue gun

hammer

Supply Quantity Size
wood spoon 1
screw hooks 2 small
fancy screw hooks 1 medium
1¼" pink satin ribbon 1 piece 22" long
pink artificial flowers 1 large

Step By Step Instructions

1. Lay the spoon flat on your work surface. Measure 3" from the top of the spoon handle. Mark off the 3" point by making a doe with a pencil in the middle of the spoon handle. Measure 3" from this dot and make another dot in the middle of the handle.
2. Place the tip of a thin nail on the first dot. Tap it lightly with the hammer to create a small hole in which you can insert your first hook. Repeat the hammering procedure for the second dot. Don't hammer the nail in any farther than the tip or you may split the spoon.
3. Now it is time to insert the screw hooks. Place the tip of one of the screw hooks in the hole and slowly, with steady pressure, screw the hook into the handle. Repeat this procedure with the remaining small hook.
4. Grip your spoon in the jaws of a vise if you have one or get someone to hold the spoon firmly for hammering. Using the same nail as before, hammer a small hole in the top of the end of the handle of the spoon. Don't hammer the nail in any farther than the tip of the nail or you may split the spoon. This is where you'll screw in the hook to hang the spoon from the wall.
5. Insert the tip of the hanging hook into the hole on top of the end of the handle. Screw it in gently with steady pressure. Don't screw it in too tightly or it will split the spoon. You want the hook to be secure in the spoon so it will support the weight of the spoon and the keys you hang on the hooks when it is hanging on the wall.
6. Cut a 22" length of the 1¼" wide ribbon. Tie a bow in the ribbon. Place it at the top of the bowl of the spoon. When you are satisfied with the arrangement of the bow, lift it up and squeeze a generous drop of hot glue on the spoon where the knot of the bow will be. Press the knot back into the glue and hold it in place briefly until secure.
7. Now it is time to add the final embellishment onto the spoon key holder to make it complete. Clip the stem of the flower as close to the flower as possible because you want to glue it on as close to the spoon as possible. Arrange it below the bow, roughly in the middle of the bowl of the spoon or so it covers most of the bowl of the spoon. When you are happy with the look, lift up the flower and squeeze a generous amount of glue underneath. Press the flower back into the glue and hold it in place briefly until secure.
