Winnetka, Ill., Repeals Draconian Handgun Ban

Friday, November 21, 2008

Becomes Third Chicago Suburb to Drop Total Ban Since Supreme Court Ruling

The Winnetka, Ill., Village Council has repealed its 20-year handgun ban following this summer's Supreme Court decision and subsequent lawsuit by NRA and three Winnetka residents.  The village council voted unanimously to strike portions of its firearm restrictions in light of issues raised by NRA lawyers in September of this year in U.S. District Court.

"This decision to repeal the Winnetka Village handgun ban marks another great victory for NRA members and firearm owners in Illinois," said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox.  "This summer, our country's Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment right is exercised individually and belongs to all Americans.  It is time this constitutionally protected civil right be returned to the residents of Winnetka Village."

The Winnetka Village Council's decision to repeal its handgun ban follows similar complete repeals by the councils of two other Chicago suburbs: Wilmette and Morton Grove.  Evanston passed a partial repeal by allowing handguns in the home, but NRA's lawsuit against it continues since the remaining ban prohibits possession of a handgun at any other place, including transportation of a handgun to one's home.

"This victory in Winnetka is not the end for NRA's fight to bring the Second Amendment to lawful residents across America.  We will continue with lawsuits in any area of the country that denies the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans in defiance of the Supreme Court's ruling."

So, on the one hand we have Winnetka, IL politicians figuring out hat the SCOTUS decision could really cost them in law suits.  Meanwhile, the brain-dead Donkeys in the state and national legislatures are gearing up to take American's rights away.

These scumbags are going to reap the whirlwind for their stupidity.
