FUNNY LITTLE LADY

She sings Christmas Carols in July
"He is risen" in December,
Funny little lady,
Who no longer can remember.

What did she do this afternoon?
Or just the day before?
She can't recall.  Is it important?
My dear, whatever for?

A forever smile on her face,
Not a worry line in sight,
The features of a trusting child,
Her eyes feverishly bright.

She sings softly to herself,
The songs of yesteryear,
She makes up the missing words,
No problem there, my dear.

She laughs a lot and giggles, too,
Which reveals a childish dimple,
But folks who are intolerant,
Scoff and say she's "simple."

A happy little lady,
Who spends hours by herself,
Feels no need for entertainment,
Or for company or help.

Fancy clothes are not of interest,
Nor are the latest styles,
If ice-cream drips upon her dress,
She says, "Oh my," and smiles.

She ignores the wars and mayhem,
That fill-up the daily news,
She's been there and she's done that,
She's already paid her dues.

Rain or shine - it does not matter,
With her, either way's okay,
Not a thing disturbs her,
"Tra La La,"  she's on her way.

One day, though, she disappeared,
She simply was not there,
People asked the police for help,
She was not anywhere.

Did they find her?  Yes they did,
Was she all right?  She was,
They found her at The Pancake House,
The place was all abuzz.

She'd ordered stacks and stacks of flapjacks,
And was ready to dig in,
When her worried daughter found her,
She just smacked her lips and grinned.

Funny little lady,
Marching to a different beat,
With a smile on her face,
Shuffling tired, little feet.

No aches, no pains, and no complaints,
She's happy night and day,
And, yes, God has His eye on her,
 He takes her cares away.

She may not communicate,
Too well with other folk,
But with her line direct to God,
She's not anybody's joke.

So, don't tease her or demean her,
For, in not too many years,
You may wish to be as free as she,
With no fears or tears, my dear.

MY ANGEL GIRL

When I first met my Angel Girl.
She was real as real could be,
She came here straight from heaven,
She said, 'just to be with me.'

This happened quite some time ago,
While I was still a child,
And no matter where I've been since then,
She's stayed with me all the while.

When I was little, we played games,
Then later she walked with me to school,
She taught me how to be a friend,
And how to use the Golden Rule.

She was there for all my tests,
Be they in school, or out,
And she helped me understand
What life was all about.

If I were sad or disappointed,
My Angel Girl was there,
She perked me up with just a hug,
And showed me that she cared.

When temptation entered my young life,
She introduced me then to God,
That was her greatest gift of all,
I was truly grateful and was awed.

She stood by me when I got married,
And was with me for each child,
She helped me with their growing pains,
Then helped me greet my first grandchild.

When I started graying,
And began to hesitate,
My Angel Girl slowed down with me,
And moved at my slower gait.

Then as I grew older still,
And became widowed and alone,
She soothed me with her love,
And talked to me of going home.

She sweetly smiled and kissed my cheek,
She said, "Your life's been good,"
"But now it will be better."
I was pleased and understood.

Then she gave me angel hugs,
As only Angel Girls can do,
And reassured me of her love,
And said, "God loves you, too."

My precious, loving Angel Girl,
My Guardian Angel through the years,
Who saw my life had been fulfilled,
And handled all my lifetime tears.

Then as her final act for me,
She flew on straight ahead,
And bowed and stated reverently,
"Dear Lord, I watched her like you said."

"And now I've brought her back to you,
According to your plan."
"Then my Angel Girl blew me a kiss,
And left me in God's hands.

The Angel with the Golden Hair

The angel with the golden hair
Cried, "Sisters!  Sisters!  Look below!
Those are my precious children there.
How sad they are, and low."

"Do you see the way they weep for me?
Which I wish they wouldn't do,
I'd rather they would smile instead,
Not be so glum and blue."

We had so many good times,
I wish they'd concentrate on them,
Perhaps I need to go below,
And remind them once again."

"Ooh, Sister, would you do that?"
The other angels hovered round,
"Of course, I would, you silly things,
I would go directly down."

So the angel with the golden hair
Flew down to see her children,
She kissed them each upon the cheek,
Trying to console them.

Her daughter felt the kiss and smiled,
"Oh, Mom, I knew you'd come,"
Her son, aware that she was there,
Said, "Gosh, I love you, Mom."

Then she flew back up to heaven,
Left them happy on their own,
See - that's what mothers do,
Let their children know they're not alone.

The angel with the golden hair
Laughed; such joy now she knew,
And her children down on earth, it seems,
 Received an angel's blessing, too.
