Good evening to everyone. This is Bill with an update on Ann. I was able to print off all of your messages and take these in to Annette today, Saturday. She has asked me to thank you all very much, to say that it was so nice to to hear from you all. Unfortunately, I am not a very good shorthand secretary, so here goes with the messages I am to pass on: Tiggs : She is very concerned about Robert and, with what she has just had, can understand what he has been going through. Red : Thank you for the little "Thinking of You" rabbit (she loved it). Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving soon. Your plants must look very nice on your patio. If you're wondering if anyone loves you, remember you have all of us in the palm of your hand. We do. Farmeress: What is this going dizzy over a particular surgeon? Good job Tiggs isn't like that when she is around the specialists. Ann has had another reasonably good day, which is great. She has been out of bed a couple of times and has even used the frame to do a little bit of walking. Physiotherapy again (painful) and visit from surgeon who is keeping a daily eye on things. Some swelling but a good nusre on this afternoon who has been putting ice packs on it and keeping up the painkillers. Family visitors today and some more flowers. She says again that she really appreciates your kind thoughts and looks forward to being back on-line herself again soon. Looks as though it will be Tuesday rather than Monday at the earliest for her to come home. Best wishes from Annette. Bill |

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin..... Wednesday 5th November (my parents wedding anniversary) was a lovely sunny day and we were planning on going over to Gozo via the ferry in the wonderful little hire car. I feel ladies that I have to explain that although the actual appearance of the car was a little dated ie it was very angular unlike the rounded features of many new small cars nowadays and the seats looking a little grubby it was overall in very good unmarked condition and was an excellent runner. But it was just a shame it looked so old fashioned!! Anyway enough of the car.... We arrived at the ferry port to see one ferry just leaving the landing stage at 10am but they do offer a 30 min service so after a short wait we were able to board the next ferry. As we were one of the first on board we had a good choice of seats. I knew that despite it being a warm sunny day once we were in the middle of the crossing it would be exceptionally breezy and picked my seat accordingly. It was funny to see everyone sit down and bask in the sun until we got moving and the wind set in and then people began to move around in the hope of finding somewhere a little more sheltered! lol I was tucked up a corner in the shelter of one of the ships side panels but we were on the top deck enjoying the view of the journey. The crossing only takes 35 mins so it was no time at all before we were climbing back into the car and driving onto terra firma again. Gozo like Malta had been lucky enough to get some roads re tarmaced via the european union money so it was a very modern well marked and signed dual carriageway that took us up from the harbour at Mgarr. Our first stop was at a little craft village where we saw some lovely things which I felt obliged to buy as I felt sorry for the poor people who were making and trying to sell the goods to make a living, but common sense prevailed and I resisted as I have more than enough clutter at home already that doesn't see the light of day very often. Next we went to the famous church of miracles 'Ta pinu' It is such a beautiful church and has a room where people have sent letters of thanks for prayers answered, and items of medical aids from people who have escaped near death but suffered serious injuries, and baby clothes from couples who have finally had a baby after being told they could not have families. It is quite an experience to see them all. Time for lunch and we drove to Wac's favourite place on the island Xlendi Bay where I tried Lampuki for the first (and last time). Lampuki is a traditional seasonal fish cooked in either lime/lemon or served in caper sauce and for quite a while now both Wac and I have said we would try it. Wac being the wuss he is wouldn't, using the excuse that if he didnt like it he'd have not had a meal. He is so unadventurous about food it's untrue! Soooo I was brave and ordered it. Mine was served in the lime and lemon and it was ok but it is a rather large fish so in my opinion there was far too much of it. I'm not much of a fish eater so I'm probably not the best to give an honest opinion on the Lampuki but at least I've tried it and if I did like a lot of fish I suppose I could have it again but as meat is usually my first choice then it would be a rare time the opportunity or the inclination would mean I would have it again. Initially I wasn't going to let Wac taste it to teach him a lesson for being a nelly and not being brave enough to order it for himself but as there was so much and I couldn't eat it all I didn't want to offend the waiter and send any back so gave it to Wac instead. He said it was ok but being a steak man he'd never choose the fish first if there were other options. They had a gorgeous apple pie on offer for dessert so we had to have that as well. The restaurant had quay side dining and we sat and overlooked the sea for a wonderful two hours whilst we ate. The waiter was an exceptionally nice, pleasant young man and you could tell that he really enjoyed his job. He was so polite and helpful to all of his customers that I made sure we gave him a very good tip as he deserved it. We started to walk along the waters edge for a short while after the meal and then it started to spit! As there was no cover and once it starts raining in Malta it pelts it down quickly we hurriedly made our way back to the car. Here is a pic of Xlendi....our restaurant was the one with the green 'brollies' so we had the lovely view looking out to sea. On the road up from Xlendi there is another craft place which coach trips use as a port of call on their organised trips. One building is full of hand knitted woollen garments and hand made lace. This visit I noticed that they had also got factory bought goods on sale in addition to their traditional crafts. I suppose they have to try and make sales with whatever they can nowadays. Another building has jewellery and especially the filigree which Malta and Gozo make the most of. As soon as you spend more than a few seconds looking at a particular piece an assistant pounces on you but I managed to thwart the one that accosted me. Across the road there is a shop selling liquers, goats cheese and jams. I bought some prickly pear jam but have yet to try it. Prickly pear cactus are all over Malta and Gozo and are used to make liqeurs from as well as the jams. By the time we left that craft place it was raining reasonably heavily. Next stop was Marsalforn another seaside place with a short promenade but by the time we got there it was raining quite heavily. We parked up overlooking the bay and Wac had a ponder at the view through the rain and I read my book for awhile. Last stop was Ramla Bay...it had stopped raining by then but it was getting to be late afternoon and not much daylight left. The beach had just one family who were already leaving and the sand was still wet from the short rainfall and it had made it very gritty. I had sandals on and I hate getting sand in my footwear but it didn't stop me having a walk down to the sea past the monument that is on the beach. The last time we were there with the boys at Easter in 2005 the wind was ferocious and I have a wonderful photograph of Robert and Mark trying to lean into the wind. Ramla Bay... By then it was time to head back to Mgarr the ferry port. After 6pm the crossings become one and a half hourly so we wanted to get on one before 6pm if possible. On the way down to the harbour there was a beautiful sunset but I didn't have time to stop and take a photograph as we only had five minutes to reach the port and board the ferry. Unbeknown to us they had actually remodernised the entrance to the port as well as the exit so we ended up going the wrong way and got stuck in slow moving traffic but fortunately we did end up catching the ferry as planned. No outside deck for the journey back, instead we found a rare space in the corner of the restaurant. I read my book again and Wac daydreamed. When we arrived back at the hotel Wac wanted to park on the street which our balcony overlooked so he could 'keep an eye' on the car. What for I don't know because if it had been pinched they would have done us a favour! lol We spent the evening in the hotel room making our own entertainment as we had on previous nights in. Some of this involved Wac watching the only english channel available on the tv, Sky 1 which was showing a constant update of the american election...... Congratulations Obama! |

I have them all open now,and displayed on my hutch I think I am going to eat later, and probably have presents then. I'll let you know It is a beautiful day, I think a stroll on the beach would be great too. Love reading about your trip today. We have a ferry at Fort Fisher that will take you and your vehicle to Southport for the day. Kudos to you for picking the right seat The pic of that beach is wonderful, and the view from the restaurant looks fabulous. Have you tried your jam yet? I have never had prickly pear anything before, lol. Bless Ann, I am glad she is recovering as the doctors expect her to. I am sure she must have lots of pain, but once the knee heals we pray for no more pain. Physio must be awful to have to go through. Gives a new meaning to no pain, no gain. I hope they are giving her good meds. Thanks for being such a wonderful message man Bill! You need a special nick name, lol I do believe your the first and only man who has been on our little board, but your very welcome. I do hope Ann can come home as as soon as possible. How are you and Jasmine coming along through all this? Well I must get moving along as i want to tubby before anything else Have a nice day ladies, and Bill |
