Morning LadiesIt is of course Sunday afternoon here "down under" CHRISTMAS oh Tigs when you have been brought up in England and know the English Christmas with the lights and snow which are on every Christmas card, having a "summer christmas" certainly takes some getting used to

When I fist came over here I just could not get my head round it.  I can remember, I was just coming back from playing tennis when someone said "have you done all your Christmas Shopping and bought all the Christmas food"  Well, I looked at her quite dazed, Christmas was she mad? it was months away-Oh no it wasn't it was the next week

I still cannot get into that Bing Crosby white Christmas feel.

Christmas over here for us is still very Traditional. We have the Turkey and Christmas pudding and its all about family.  However it is light evenings and certainly NO SNOW.  Some people have mid winter Christmas party's in June, but the dosen't really work as only the place you go to is "looking a little bit like Christmas" outside of course its just a winters day

I still send the traditional English Christmas cards, over here they do have a lot of cards with New Zealand scenes and things but I still go for what I like best about Christmas.

We did get near to a Christmas scene one year in June up at Taupo we went up to the Chateau for "afternoon tea " the weather was a bit fresh but nothing more than that we rounded a corner and there was the Chateau covered in snow and snow was gently falling.  We sat by a roaring fire and looked out onto an "English Christmas wonderland" Of course we were right by the mountain where people come from all over the world to ski and the mountain had been a beautiful sight when we had passed it on the Desert Road coming up.

Bill Took off this morning at 6am.  Tracy came in at eight, and took Jasmine off to the Mall for a couple of hours then a girl that was provided by A.C.C. came and gave me the lunch that Bill had prepared before going (yes and he's done Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's too!!) We have been very lucky A.C.C.have really come to the party to help us.  The girl comes to-morrow at 6.45 to get Jasmine up and ready for school.  She is going to do what we do, wash her hair every morning, give her her breakfast and send her off to school all smart.  Then the girl is coming back at 2pm, and "seeing to me" cups of tea etc: and any little household things that need to be done, then Jasmine comes home at 3pm and she will look after her until five when Tracy will come in and we will have tea.  So all in all the very best is being done under the circumstances

Hello everyone, will have to go back to bed now for a short while think I have pushed the knee a bit too much, or so its saying
To everyone have a good day

Morning!
Thanks for your christmas reply Ann, it will be interesting to see what Faremeress and lilbabs have to say seeing as they have never known any different than what they have now.

Your comment Ann about playing tennis etc and not realising christmas was so close is how I always feel when we have been abroad late October and early November. Whilst it's nice to get some 'winter sun' it doesn't half confuse you that England is so far into the winter when you get home and christmas is almost on the doorstep.

My fave time for going abroad is February as that really breaks the winter up and makes coping with the long winter bearable. Not that I have booked time off for then in '09 nor planned an abroad holiday this time. lol
We are actually off on a five day coach trip to Devon I think it is, with my parents in mid January and then I have another week booked off at the end of March with nothing planned as yet for then.

I had a good evening last night and made 5 lovely cards, well almost made, still got another few bits to put on them yet but it was an idea I'd seen at the craft class the other night and I made a quick sketch and took some measurements and devised my own card based on the idea. Looking good. Maybe I should think about making all 100 or so cards exactly the same next time so I'm sure peeps won't receive the same or similar idea next year as I usually only make between 4 and six cards of the same design so I vary it for individuals. Hmm... I have lots of embellishments though of a variety of things, santas, snowmen, trees, stars etc etc.... so have the ingredients to make lots of different things.

I have been to church and it is the christmas fayre there today but I didn't go as it's not the same on your own now the boys have grown up and don't come with me. Years ago it used to be held on the last Sunday in November and we would put the christmas tree and decorations up when we got home from the fayre and make a whole day of it.
Funny really I don't think you truly appreciate how precious those times are when your caught up in the extremely busy activities of everyday life and it's only when they're not there anymore that you reflect and miss them.
Still at least some of us do have the lovely memories to reflect on and that is what I shall focus on in a positive way.

It's a limbo period of time today at the moment as Wac has had some ideas of what he'd like to do today and I have mine and neither the twain shall meet. I feel like I should be out there shopping, but Wac hates shopping. The best solution would be for him to venture off and do what he feels he needs to do and I go elsewhere and do what I know I have to do! Spot the difference ladies?
I'm loathe for us not to spend the day together though, but if we compromise and it isn't really what I want to do then I will feel my day has been wasted and I have so precious little time at the best of times. Maybe common sense should prevail and I crack on with card making as that is quite urgent especially if I am going to get my overseas ones in the post in time and let Wac do what he wants to do be it in or outdoors.
Oh what a dilemna!

Well I hope that whatever you are all doing it is with an easier mind than mine! lol
Happy Thanksgiving Red and I hope your celebrations are going well.

G' morning,

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner last night.  There must have been 30 people show up, and only Patty, and I cooked , of course there were NO left overs to gather and put away.  People who show up at the last minute should at least bring something!!  I am glad I only took half of each turkey over and half of the pies I baked.  Everyone had a nice plate full and there were plenty of pies, but it was definitely picked clean.  Phillip was there hobbling aound on his crutches.  Now I see about the ring at the top , pretty clever.  I had not seen those before.

Ann, how wonderful you have an assistant to  come in and help with the daily things.  I would be tempted to hold her hostage, lol  I hope your pain is getting easier to manage so you may dance around the Christmas tree come Christmas morning.

Gee Tigs,  I know exactly what you mean about you and Wac having different views of your day.  Ken and I are never on the same path.  I have succumed to women things, and man things, and we act accordingly. His man thing usually involves the computer chair, or sofa.  tehe

Tim is finally out of the shower, so we can get along with cleaning, have a nice day and I will be back with more words of wisdom....What's that? You say your still waiting for the first round?

Evening girls...I've been shopping!

Not long after I posted earlier Wac conceded that a trip to Oldham was a good idea. When we got there he was quite impressed with the new shopping arcade that he hadn't realised was there! We'd only been in it a minute when he decided he'd go off and look round the shops he wanted to and I'd do the ones I wanted.

I am still gobsmacked at my purchases in Debenhams because I took four tops from 'Maine' into the changing rooms and I loved everyone and for the first time in years when the assistant asked me if any were any good I said delightedly "Oh yes! All of them!" and there was 25% off as well!

I also had a great buy of some lovely fitted shirts for Mark from Primark at a fabulous £7 each for two of them and £9 for the third. Bargain! Such a shame the other two haven't got his gorgeous figure. Although I did get James a couple of 'normal fit' shirts from TJ Hughes. Nothing for Robert as I couldn't find a T shirt in a colours and a design I know he'd like. Although I did get him one from Burton's on Thursday which is green and has a 7up logo on it. Very pertinent as Robert has to have an additive free diet and when he was younger and first put on the diet he could only drink 7up, water and milk.

We've just had a chinese for tea, mine was chicken and pineapple with boiled rice .

Now I'm trying to make my mind up how to spend the evening....decisions, decisions now as I don't know whether to wrap pressies or make more cards.....

Glad your meal went well Red, take one of the cooks away and half your guests and then that's the scenario for me on christmas day. 15 people, one chef, me!

When your 'little helper' has finished at yours Ann I could do with some help with a few chores here please.

Laters......

HI ladies,
its just going on to lunchtime and very muggy still even last night had to sleep in just a sheet and Tigger would love to have a white Christmas to see what it is like can just imagine snow and cold, but I prefer our Summer Christmas and yes we do have traditional Christmas fare but my mother-inlaw does the turkey and hams and chicken the rest of us make food to take along so my mother-inlaw does not do everything, I make Trifles and bring the Pavlova's all in all its a huge massive table of food lmao.

Hot nights,Bar-b-ques love it lol.No holidays for me but work over the holidays, but hopefully will be going to my sister in Brisbane Australia, for 2 weeks but not till January, but can't wait.
Got work at 6pm tonight so I am just mucking round till then.
Yes here in NZ we have Careworkers who will go to your home and help with personel needs and clean your house as well as prepare your meals, all depends on the assessment of the doctor, you probably can tell by my knowledge that I use to be a Careworker and yes it is hard work.
But we try to keep the person we help to be independent as much as possible.
Which means if they can do something themselves we encourage them to do it,we just make sure they don't overdo things.
