As some of you know I will be celebrating my Silver wedding anniversary in November .What I need help with is the catering .I am doing it myself and it is to be a 60's Style buffet .I want to keep it as simple as possible but authentic of the 60's era .
What I want to know is what kinds of foods were served in a 60's buffet .If anyone can help that would be great thanks .

I remember things like cheese,pineapple and onion on sticks,Vol-U-Vents,sausage on sticks,plus the usual asst of sandwiches,i also used to make a sausage meat and garlic pie in flakey pastry,dead easy to make just mix the sausage meat with finely chopped onion,garlic and bind with a beaten egg i used the ready made pastry as i am not very good making flakey pastry (to be honest its too much hassle lol ) hope thats of some use to you Yvette.

Try a look on here Yvette...not found anything else, it seems as if buffets then were very much like they are now. I see Yung has given you lots of savoury ideas but I hope there will be some sweets as well.
I don't envy you the work it's going to take...your going to be shattered by the night after preparing the buffet.

a simple sixties party ..........for your entertainment >>>

and there's even a piccy
ritz crackers were the order of the dat by the sound of it !!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They did have things like
Prawn cocktail (as  starter)
Cheddar cheese on ritz crackers or water biscuits and sometimes with a bit of gherkin on top of the cheese.
Small sausage rolls,
Fondue savory with vegetables or meat to dip .
Quiches were in then too.
Nuts, crisps (ready without  or with salt (remember those little blue packs of salt? ) and some plain olives.
Pickles of various kinds.
Vol o Vents with eggy or tuna  stuffing
Cold Sliced cooked meats including tongue
Mixed salads
Melba toast with various toppings
Then there was the obligatory  centre piece which consisted of cheese and pineapple chunks on cocktail sticks stuck into either a Half melon turned over onto its flat side or big fat potato which was covered in tin foil hahaaaaaaa then you stick the cocktail sticks into this to make a something that  resembles a demented hedgehog.
IN fact 90% of the food was finger food in the 60s .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Drinks around the 60s were thingslike VCinzano, Babycham, Snowball (made with advocaat) Cherry B , Harverys Bristol Cream Sherry,  anything and tonic There were not many tinned lagers in those days but you could but those big tins of beer or lager which held about 6 pints or the like.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Puddings were Lemon Meringue Pie, Pavlova, Chocolate  Fondue  with pieces of fruit to dip, Mixed fruit salad with ice cream and wafers,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hope this helps
Love MJ xx

Thanks everyone all your suggestions are a great help I've got a much better idea now of what to get lol .

Just need to compile a shopping list now

Tigs Rachael is going to be helping me with the cooking as she has 2 ovens so that will be a big help and I'm sure I can get others to help if needs be . David isn't impressed that I'm doing it myself he wanted to get a caterer to do it but I wanted to do it myself because I've never really catered for a party myself so thought now might be a good time lol ( might not get another chance ) .

I'm getting all excited now

yeah David is right.  You dont have to do it all yourself.

Again, my suggestion is have a pot luck.  This way you can still cook to your heart's content and also will give others a chance to be 60's creative.

Am i invited?      cheeky, aint I?
