WOW!  THis is a 5 star in my book. 2 Thumbs up. Get a large drink , big bowl of popcorn and get ready. (go to the bathroom, its nearly 3 hours)
Starring Brad Pitt....Orlando Bloom....Peter O'Toole (love him)...Eric Bana....and many more familiar faces.
This movies has action, and suspense. Its got love but not the usual sex scenes that are in so many movies. Trust, honor, mystery and good old greed.
Troy is  more a movie about Achilles then Troy itself but all things are factered in. Such as Helen, the trojan horse, Spartans, etc. I bought this one and plan to watch it again as soon as I have 3 hours to just sit.

I passed this one up when it played at the show because Brad Pitt is not one of my favorites. However, after reading this review and the mention that the running time is 3 hours, I'm definitely going to rent it from Blockbuster. I had no idea the movie was so long and I really like long, long movies! Thanks.

Hi Peach, I too am NOT a big Pitt fan or even Orlando Bloom but I was impressed with this one. My 26 yr old daughter likes Brad Pitt but not in this movie. Go figure! Hope you like it.

I have not seen the movie because from what I understand it is so full of inacuracies. Had they named it something else then it wouldn't matter much, but bearing the name 'Troy' it should resemble IMO reality.

Imagine I make a movie name it 'Lincoln' and then the main character is a slave trader who through a Coup d'etat takes the presidency of the US... ludicrious.

A partial list of the inacuracies in the movie;

1.- Achilles and Hector fought in a grassy plain not in a sandy beach.
2.- The walls of the city were about 1/3 the size depicted
3.- Troy was fought over because it was on the periphery of two major empires, not because of a woman named Helen.
4.- The stone statues portrayed in the movie did not come around until at least 700 years later. And they were not covered with loinclothes!
5.- The Greeks could not have put coins in the eyes of their dead. Coins were not invented for another 500 years!
6.- The movie was based on Homer's Illiad, but they kill people that survived in Homer's account.
7.- And the worst part of it Brad Pitt as Achilles! geez... people... ! what were they thinking?! Ancient Greek vase paintings portray Achilles as a dark skinned man very dark skin with very dark hair and beard. A very rough and hard looking man. Definetly not somebody Brad Pitt resembles in the least... for that they might as well have used an oriental to depict Achilles.

I don't mind when they take liberties for the sake of making the movie entertaining, that is to be expected or it woould be a documentary. However, when they completely disregard all historical aspects in the making of a movie, IMO it does more harm than good.
