When I sat down at my desk the next morning, I found a copy of a fax, from the Kansas State Police, with
the name, Sue McCaffe circled with a black felt tip marker. Below that was a detectiv's name and number,
along with the message, "Victim murdered by unknown assailant". I picked up the phone and called Detective
Jennings, but he was not at his desk. I sent a fax back, asking for a set of photos of the deceased. Those
photos came back to me within an hour.

As I looked at the eight photos, I shook my head in disbelief.  I understood now, why the swat team had not
encountered the demonic spirit, he had been pursuing Sue, on her way to Montana. Then it hit me like a ton
of bricks! Only three people were left who had seen the creature. The hair was standing up on the back of my
neck, as I realized, that they were in danger too. I also realized that leaving town would do them no good. So,
there was only one thing left for me to do. I called Father Janovich at my church. The phone rang twice, and
to my relief, I heard his smiling voice.

"Father Janovich, this is Detective Star, I attend mass at your church". He paused for just a second, and I
heard him tell me, it was good to hear my voice. Then he said; in a concerned way... "yet, I sense something
is bothering you, am I correct"? I told him I was working on a very unusual murder case... and would like his
help. "My help, he laughed, how can I possibly help"? I asked him if I could meet him at his office today, and
he said sure, and that after 1pm would be fine. I told him I would stop by at 1. Prior to heading out to meet
with Father Janovich, I met with the chief and told him  everything that I knew and asked that a gurard be
stationed outside the room of the witness at the hospital psychiactric ward, and surveillance on the other two.

He asked why, and I showed him the pictures of Sue McCaffe. I also showed him the photos of John appleton,
the stacy family, as well as the claw marks on the basement door. I told him, as bizzare as it sounded that I
believed something evil lurked in the basement of the house on Larch lane... and was free now.  I told him, I
was working on a theory, but had some research to do first. He told me it was better to place the three in
protective custody, a safe house, rather then 3 different locations, and I agreed.

A few minutes before 1pm, I arrived at Father Janovich's office and the church secretary let him know I had
arrived. When I entered his office, he rose and told me it was good to see me, and asked me if it was personal
or official business that brought me to him? I told him with nervousness, "Father... I know you must be aware
of the recent murders on larch lane, and the accidental shootings of several of the swat team officers, and he
nodded. I sat down, took a deep breath and said as calmly as I could; "Father, I believe there is a demonic
spirit in that house".

There, I had said it, I said what I believed could not be possible, yet saw no other possible explanation. I
showed him the victim photos, the claw marks on the door, and read witness statements to him, as he listened.
There was a long silence after I had finished, and I wondered what he was thinking. "Detective Star, can you
take me too this house, where the murders occured"? Now it was me, who remained silent, as I pondered not
only the danger to myself, but to father Janovich. I vaguely remembered watching the movie, poltergeist on tv,
and knew that the danger to both of us was very real.

When I spoke, it was with hesitation, as I agreed under one condition. "You must agree that if I tell you to
"RUN" father... that you will run, run as if the devil himelf was after your soul"! He told me he had no plans
to die just yet, with a chuckle, and reassured me that if there was a clear danger, that he would leave the house.
"When would you like me to go with you Detective"? I asked what his schedule was, and he said "I'm  free
right now", and I said that would be perfect. He asked if I would wait outside a few moments, that he had a
matter he needed to attend to, and I shook his hand and thanked him. "Don't thank me so fast, Detective Star,
I haven't done anything yet, he said with a sparkle in his eye.

I waited outside his office and paced, as the secretary watched curiously, wondering why I hadn't just taken
a chair. I politely smiled at her, a time or two.. as the minutes passed, until finally, I heard the door knob turn
and Father Janovich came out, with bible in hand. "I'll be gone for a while, Sherry, I'm not sure how long. If
it is an emergency, you can page me, and she said, yes Father. Once out in the parking lot, I asked him if he
wanted to ride in my car, or his, and he answered, "your's is fine, saves me gas"; and we both laughed. That
touch of humor was needed by both of us, because I saw concern in his eyes, and I am sure he saw concern
in mine.
