Working with Dragon Power

In order to work with dragon power you have to respect and understand this energy. Dragons, as a race, are older and wiser than humans. Some are said to have been around before the dawn of time and, if you check the myths and legends, you will find they have appeared all over earth in one form or another. Not bad for creatures who allegedly don’t exist!

Before even considering working dragon magick, do your research. Look at the myths and legends of earth, try to understand the nature of the dragon. Western myths mainly portray them as evil, brutal creatures and they are often slain by the hero. Look deeper into the story, was the dragon just hungry and misunderstood? Dragons are not evil by nature but they do have a survival instinct like most creatures, if attacked they will defend themselves even if it means death to a would-be dragon slayer. Eastern writers seem to understand the wonder and knowledge of their dragons, they are portrayed as wise and just creatures. There are Chinese and Japanese dragon slayers but there is not as many documented as there is in the west.

Once you have learnt about dragon nature its time to look at yourself. In order to perform the magick of dragons you will need to be self-disciplined, you have to be truthful with yourself and you must be willing to make some sacrifices. Personal sacrifices, I hasten to add, we do not go around killing living creatures! Lets start with self-discipline, this also includes ethics and anyone who has been interested in any form of magick or witchcraft should understand the need for this. Anyone wishing to work with dragon magick, or any other kind of magick, should not try to use it to control another person. Everyone is entitled to his or her own free will, how would you like it if someone tried to control you? Even if you are tempted to cast a spell that will effect another person, stop and think how you would feel if it was directed at you.

Being truthful to yourself is very important, you should always be true to yourself no matter what the circumstances. It’s a good idea to ask yourself why you want to learn dragon magick? If it’s because you are bored, want to use it to get a boy/girl friend, or just think dragons are cool, then forget it. Dragons are only interested in helping the serious seeker. Working with dragons is not a game, if you want a game try Dungeons and Dragons! If you are bored, get a new hobby. If you want a boy/girl friend, go out and meet people. Dragon magick is not the answer to all the little things you can sort out on your own.

Finally, personal sacrifice. Don’t worry this isn’t going to hurt you or anyone else. Everyone has emotions they don’t like, hate, anger, greed, jealousy, envy, etc. In order to work rituals or spells successfully you have to give up these emotions. They tend to cause emotional backlash upon the caster and can cause pain to others, no self-respecting mage would want that to happen. Try to get these emotions out of your life and you should be a lot happier for it. I will admit it takes work and you will probably never get rid of the emotions totally, but do the best you can. If I do get angry or annoyed I try to give the anger to the earth so she can convert it into good energy. Just place your hands on the ground and allow the emotions to flow out of you, if its not possible to do it straight away you can store it for a short time until you are able. The other way to release the negative emotions is to wash your hands, let them flow away with the water. Allowing negative emotions to fester inside yourself can make you feel very unwell so let them go whenever possible.

The other personal sacrifice you will have to make may be harder for some people. You have to set aside time every day for the dragons you work with, even if it is only 15 minutes. Working with dragons does not mean you can cast a spell using their power when you feel like it and maybe go two-three months without talking to them again. Dragons deserve respect and reverence. The simplest way to do this is to light a candle and just say something like ‘Thank you for being part of my life? Meditate on this for a while then carry on as normal. This way you are giving a little bit of energy to the dragons who watch over you and they, in return, will be happy to give you some of their energy next time you do a ritual. Whenever you are able, celebrate the dragon festivals. They will appreciate your efforts and might join you in celebration
