December 17
Hanukkah (Jewish)
Sephira

Themes:  Miracles; Victory; Success; Overcoming

Symbol:  Light

About Sephira:  This ancient Cabalistic goddess embodies divine light - the active, energic power that flows through the Universe ina ll directions.  Thus, it is no coincidence that the ten spheres on the Tree of Life are called Sephirah, for this goddess guides our way and path with her radiance.

To Do Today:  This festival commemorates the rebellion of the Jews against the Syrians, in which a miracle took place.  A small bottle of oil stayed lit for eight days, keeping the temple consecrated until more oil could be brought.
Since Sephira is the light of miracles, today's a good time to focus on seemingly impossible goals or situations that you may have set aside or left behind in discouragement. Revisit those dreams;  reconsider the logistics of those circumstances.  If there is a  better way to approach things, Sephira will illuminate  that path or options for you in your meditations.
Make sure to turn on light sources today, and open curtains to let natural light into your home.  Symbolically, this welcomes Sephira's active power into your spiritual life and quest.  Also consider following with Jewish tradition and giving coins to friends or family.  These tokens draw financial security.  Or, eat potatoe pancakes for providence.

Rosh Hashana (Jewish)
Malkuth

Themes:  Forgiveness; Cleansing; Health; Peace; Earth; Balance

Symbols:  Yellow-colored Items; Quartz; Cereals and Grains; the Number 10

About Malkuth:  Malkuth is the goddess of the tenth sephira in the Cabalistic Tree of Life.  Here she reminds us of the need for positive actions on the physical plane, not simply good thoughts or lofty words, to bring about change.  Malkuth also counsels us to always balance our goddess spirituality with real life and to keep peace with the earth, which she personifies.

To Do Today:  This is the Jewish new year and typically a time for prayer, introspection, and healing the emotional wounds that keep people apart.  Take ten minutes out of your morning routine and pray to the goddess or meditate on recent months.  This will give you time to begin integrating all the lessons and changes that have occurred.
Jumping into or over water today liberates you from sin and negativity, as does naming a handful of grain after your problems and tossing it in water.  Eating a round loaf of bread dipped in honey bring longevity, and eating apples dipped in honey brings the sweetness of Malkuth's health.
To encourage Malkuth's balance and harmony throughout your day, wear something yellow or carry a yellow-colored stone or a piece of quartz with you.  The quartz in particular engenders better communication skills and an improved connection with the earth/physical plane.

Shavouth (Israel)
Holy Spirit

Themes:  Communication; Mediation; Universal Law; Blessings; Change; Health; Purity; Truth

Symbol:  Light

About the Holy Spirit:  In both Gnostic and Hebrew writings, the Holy Spirit is a female force.  In New Age vernacular, she is seen as white light energy.  The Holy Spirit pours upon people to communicate divine missives, including messages of well-being and blessing.  She also mediates on our behalf with other facets of the divine, using order, universal law, and wisdom as a force for positive change.

To Do Today:  The Feast of Weeks in Jewish tradition centers around the return of Moses from Mount Sinai bearing the Ten Commandments, and the promises made by God for a home "flowing with milk and honey."  Consequently, suitable edibles today include dairy products and anything sweetened with honey to internalize divine promises for your life.  To know what those promises might be, ask the Holy Spirit to show you:  pray and meditate.  Visualize a sparkling white light pouring over you.  Write down any insights, images, or phrases that come during this time.  Don't be surprised if you get words in a different language.  This is glossalia (tongues) and may reveal secrets about past lives through the languages represented.  If you don't have the time for meditation, at least burn a white candle today to honor the Holy Spirit and her spiritual gifts.
