Lammas King
by Maria Cunningham ©
The longest day is past and gone
Let's drink a health to Barleycorn
And raise a glass to the golden grain
As Lammas-time comes round again.
The Green Man's coat will soon be gold
And Summer's sun will soon grow old
But now we thank the Mother Earth
For all her treasures of great worth
The fields that sway with golden wheat
Provide us with the food we eat
At Lammas-time we reap the grain
And the God that grew so strong is slain
The King is dead, each year he dies
The circle turns, so shall we rise
In ale we drink and bread we eat
The season's pattern now complete
The longest day is past and gone
Let's drink a health to Barleycorn
And raise a glass to the golden grain
As Lammas-time comes round again
These are the Lyrics to the Song which Maria Cunningham composed especially for the Lammas ritual and for which she has given kind permission to have reproduced here.
