Colors and Healing | Color has long been used for aesthetic value ?orange and yellow used in fast food restaurants because those colors boost appetite. Pale blues, greens and off-whites in hospitals - particularly emergency rooms. These are the most soothing of all the colors. And we all know how red is viewed in today’s culture ?the little red sports car for his mid-life crisis, and the tight red dress or bright red lipstick for hers. Red boosts the inner passions, instills courage and self-esteem in the wearer/bearer. The best place for color, to my mind, is in healing. I have seen the results of simple color placement throughout a household and how the residents react to each area. A sunshine yellow room, with blue accents brings out a sense of security and warmth, which pushes back the doldrums of depression, and fills the spirit with calm assurance. In this lesson, we will look at ways of bringing color into your life, to affect healing of many troubles. A color chart is provided, based on the seven prismatic colors, and the two base colors (as I call them), white and black. Following this is a discussion of color methods. | | Color Chart | | The color chart provided here is to be used in conjunction with the methods in following sections. Suggested Color Treatment | Symptom | Red - Highly charged color, used in base functions such as eating, sex drive, strong emotions; works well for grounding.
| Mental Health: Depression, feelings of being lost, detachment Physical Health: Gastro-Intestinal | Orange - Highly charged color, useful in work with the sexual functions and fertility. Also indicitive in treating stomach disorders. | Mental Health: Uneasy, nervous, unwanted -personality changes Physical Health: Sex drive, reproductive organs, infertility | Yellow - Darker shades are used in the balance of energies towards adding more vitality. Elevates mood, and is useful in counselling.
| Mental Health: Feelings of loss, unbalanced, incompleteness Physical Health: General weakness of the body, stomach problems | Green - Excellent, soothing color to balance energies; useful in fertility issues, bronchial disorders. | Mental Health: Repressed emotions, mood swings, temper, depression Physical Health: Heart or Lung difficulties | Blue - Lighter shades work well to alleviate and balance moods; clears energy blockages in the throat/oral/sinus areas. Often used as a secondary, multi-purpose color in healing, next to white. Darker shades for calming.
| Mental Health: Trouble relaying thoughts, being uncommunicative, depression Physical Health: Sore throats, heartburn, sinus troubles, mouth and teeth difficulties | Indigo - Powerful color; energies work well for relaxation methods and meditation.
| Mental Health: Loss of spirituality, detachment from reality, over-emotional Physical Health: Headaches, eye-sight, sinus | Violet - Powerful color, needing some practice to get used to. Energies will suffuse one with general feeling of health; balances chakras and aural fields.
| Mental Health: Severe mental disorder, psychic and spiritual detachment, hallucinations Physical Health: Headaches, migraines, eye-sight | White - Energizes with purity & wholesomeness; creates harmony and balance in one's energetic forces. | Mental Health: Anything Physical Health: Anything-white is the all-purpose color. Can be used in conjunction with the others or by itself. | Black - Absorbs negative energies, binds illness, destroys energetic blockages. | Mental Health: Not advised Physical Health: Not advised-the only time one should use black is when using candles or poppets, to draw OUT the negative energies. | | |

Color Breathing Exercise Find a comfortable area to seat yourself, either on your floor with pillows, or on a chair/couch. Make sure you will not injure yourself if you were to tip over to the side or back ?oftentimes people can slip into sleep during a focused breathing session, much the same as is possible with meditation. Once you have made yourself comfortable, begin to regulate your breathing. Make a note of how often you inhale during each minute. After a few moments, try taking every third breath a little deeper into your lungs. With your mind’s eye, see your exhalations leaving your body as a cloud of black air. This will begin cleansing your body of any negative or harmful energies. As you become comfortable with this, move on to every second breath, and the color by visualizing the air you inhale as Red. Continue on for approximately five minutes, until you automatically begin to exhale the color as well, and then move on to the next color. Don’t worry ?your sub-conscious mind will make note of the color flow in your body and will begin the colored exhalations when there is enough of the color in your energy field. If you feel as though you could benefit from an extra few moments of a given color, proceed to draw in every breath with the color you’ve chosen. Take mental stock of your physical body. Are your muscles relaxed? If so, you may wish to stop the exercise now, and know you’ve done well. However, if you feel a build up of energy (a tingling not unlike that of “pins and needles?only less painful), return to the exercise, starting from the beginning. This time, rather than using the color chart recommendations, simply use white ?with the exhalations again being the cloud of black. If there is a particular physical part of your body that you have an issue with, check the chart for the corresponding color to the problem, and work on that area specifically, following the method outlined above. Once complete, and you feel you are done ?allow yourself a few moments to go back to normal breathing, and you’re done! |

Colored Light The use of colored light, and particularly different colors of light, is called chromotherapy. The sun delivers each color of the spectrum, although it’s left to our bodies to filter and take what is needed. Generally, our bodies will do what is necessary. However, if for what-ever reason there is an imbalance in our system, we cannot absorb the necessary rays without assistance. Several methods can be employed, from the highly complicated to the simple. I would like to take a moment to point out that while wonderful products such as floodlights, wrapped fluorescents and even plain colored light bulbs are available on the market, nothing works so well as natural light. Before deciding what therapy shade you will need, you must first consider the area of your body that needs the rays. One way to do this is to match that area with the chakra sectors (see Chakra Balancing). If more than one area requires attention, you will need to purchase the supplies for each color necessary. The method below may be slightly costly for those in areas that do not have easily accessible craft or art supply stores. Just as costly, but equally effective would be vertical, vinyl blinds. However, before we traverse the home decorating catalogues, let’s look at the options. At craft and art supply stores, look for clear, colored plastic sheets, or cellulose-acetone sheets such as those used on theatrical lighting. These make the best, and often the cheapest, methods of filtering the natural light. Find a window which gets a fair amount of sun during your most relaxing part of the day. To place the cels on the window, use a bit of sticky-tac on the corners ?this not only allows the cels to be removed when necessary, it’s also much easier on clean up after a treatment. If the window is not completely covered, pull the blinds, drapes or what-have-you until the only light being allowed in, is that being filtered by the cel. Settle yourself comfortably, either sitting or laying down. This method, used fifteen to twenty minutes each day for a week, is an excellent method of providing your body with the energy it needs, in that particular area. If colored cels aren’t available, and as I’ve mentioned above ?vinyl, vertical blinds will work as well. They need to allow some light in, so the ones with reflective or black backing will not work. Simply mount the brackets for your window, and the blinds are inter-changeable. You may need to extend the treatment for 30 minutes per day for a week, or add another week to the treatment plan. |

The Healing Effects of Color Learn what colors support the chakras Colors can have impact on our body's energies. They can help to clear negative emotions and energy and restore balance. Each color is associated with a different energy center, or chakra, in the body. Here is some information about each color and the chakra it can effect.
Red Red is a vibrant color that stimulates the body. Too much red can overexcite and even cause anger. People with high blood pressure or anxiety may wish to avoid wearing too much red. This color can be used therapeutically for energy conditions associated with low blood pressure, inactivity, and impotence.
Yellow Yellow is associated with the solar plexus chakra. An imbalance in the solar plexus can manifest as fear, apprehension, introversion or power issues, which this color can help to balance. Yellow is associated with the intellect and mental processes. It can be used therapeutically for people with rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis due to its vibrational link to calcium metabolism. In addition to the metabolic system, the solar plexus affects the digestive system and is related to the eyes.
Orange Orange can stimulate the respiratory and nervous systems and bring joy, making it useful for depression or melancholy. It is associated with the sacral chakra, so it can benefit the kidneys and urinary systems. The sacral chakra is also related to the adrenal glands, so orange can help to balance adrenal depletion or exhaustion resulting from chronic stress or overwork.
Green Green is a color that can help bring balance to the body and help purify and cleanse. It is related to the heart chakra, so it can help with issues stemming from too much or too little self-love or rejection.
Turqoise Turquoise is associated with the throat chakra and is responsible for strengthening the immune system against disease. It is also involved in improving communication. Turqoise can have an anti-inflammatory effect. It calms and strengthens the voice, and can help to improve verbal expression.
Blue Blue is a very calming and sedating color. Blue is related to the brow chakra. It can help to balance energy when there is high blood pressure, migraine, asthma, anxiety and skin irritation. It is a protective color that helps to protect you during challenging times by strengthening intuition and insight.
Purple Purple is associated with spirituality, being linked to the crown chakra. It can help when personal transformation is desired, and can also help to bring self-respect and inner wisdom, which is a vital aspect of self-healing.

Color Healing
In Western culture the different classifications used in dealing with colors are: hue, value and chroma. Non-Western cultures may determine their color concepts by different means. Hue refers to the position in the spectrum of visible light. Each of the seven primary has a position on the spectrum measured in angstrom units. (An angstrom unit is one hundredth millionth of a centimeter and is used to measure wavelengths on the electromagnetic energy spectrum) The following is the positions of the primary colors measured in angstrom units: The color violet has a wavelength varying from 4000-4500; indigo, 4500-4700; blue, 4700-5100; green 5100-5600; yellow, 5600-5900; orange, 5900-6200; and red, 6200-6700.
Value represents the amount of light reflected, or the brightness of the color. The range of reflected goes from "white," where all the light is reflected to "black," where there is no reflection of light. But, it must be noted that no true color has been found. White even has grays to black in it. There are no true orange or green, but a mixture of other colors. The same holds true for the next classification of color, chroma, the "purity," "saturation, " or "intensity" of a color. No color is pure, but an combination of other colors, although one particular hue is dominant.
The body selects from sunlight whatever colors it needs to maintain balance, and these colors are absorbed by vibrations. Lacking colors is called chromopathy, from the Greek words kroma, color, and pathos , suffering. The treatment for this condition is chromotherapy, which supplies the body with colors that it is lacking. The application of chromotherapy is very practicable and can be done without danger to anyone because the natural element of color is being dealt with.
The primary colors of the spectrum and their healing properties:
Violet: Violet is at the opposite end of the spectrum from red. Good for mental disorders, the nervous system, baldness and female complaints.
Indigo: Indigo is a slight narcotic removing fears and reassures those afraid of the dark. Good for emotional problems, deafness, and especially good for the eyes, even cataracts.
Blue: Blue acts as an antiseptic and cooling agent. Excellent for inflammations including those of internal organs. Good for cuts and burns, also for rheumatism.
Green: Green is the great healer. It is neutral to the other others. It serves as a general tonic and neutralizer. When in doubt, use green. Excellent for heart problems, neuralgic headaches, ulcers, head colds and boils.
Yellow: Yellow is excellent in treating bowel and intestine problems. It can act as a mild sedative to relieve many fears and give a mental uplift. It is good for treating indigestion and heartburn, constipation, piles, also menstrual problems.
Orange: Orange is not as harsh of a color as red, but has many of the same properties. Very good for illnesses of the respiratory system such as asthma and bronchitis; also good as a tonic and laxative.
Red: Red is at one end of the spectrum. It is a warm color which invigorates, excellent when used for treatment of persons having heat diseases, anemia, and liver diseases.
Color healing is usually done with the technique of visualization. The practitioner vividly holds the color in his mind and directs it to the affected area of the patient.
Directing the Color:
The practitioner produces the color required to heal the patient. Most often light from outside or direct sunlight is used. To intensify the required color a piece of colored glass, plastic, or even cellophane may be used in which to direct light through. One method is to tape the piece of colored glass, plastic, cellophane, or even tissue paper on the pane of a window, then let the patient sit in front of the window so the colored light is directed directly on the patient's afflicted area, if it is the stomach then the light should penetrate the stomach area, or an afflicted arm, or whatever. This treatment should be given in two thirty minutes daily, once in the morning and once in the evening.
In the absent of sunlight or there is no available window artificial light may be used. One method is the used of a photographic slide projector. This is frequently better than a window because the light can be more accurately focused onto the afflicted area. From a photographic supply firm one can obtain empty cardboard slide mouths onto which can be placed small rectangles of colored plastic or acetate so to have a set of slides of the seven primary colors.
Color-Charged Water
An ordinary glass of water can become medicinal when charged by sunlight. Tape a piece of colored paper or acetate around the glass (a colored bottle is even better) and let it sit in sunlight from six to eight hours. Even if the sun does not directly shine on the water it will still be charged. A wineglass of water taken three time daily has the similar effect as a thirty minute colored light application.
An example of this is drinking red water in the morning to wake one up or invigorate the person, and drinking indigo at night to relax him. Treatment by the use of color-charged water is called Hydrochromotherapy .
Distant Color Healing
Color healing, used as form of sympathetic magic, can also be applied when the patient is absent by utilizing a photograph of the person The treatment is known as Graphichromotherapy . It is best employed by using a low voltage light bulb, perhaps even a night light. The same application applies as in all color healing: focus the color directly onto the afflicted area. This can be more easily done when the photograph is in a frame. The colored material is placed over the afflicted area of the person. The treatment should be applied at least three hours a day. In healing colors act as balancers: we administer the color(s) someone needs more of, or we give the opposite of the color someone has too much of. Why should the body need color suppletion? Healthy people are in tune with their ground-tune, what means that they vibrate on their own unique frequency. Their aura - the invisible energy bodies - will keep them in balance by attracting the right cosmic forces for their physical body. When people get stressed, shocked, frightened or ill-treated their aura becomes damaged. These energetic power fields become thin, show dark spots or lesions, what keeps the aura from proper working. The result is that you adapt a different frequency, and you will feel uncomfortable or get sick. Here the healing qualities of light come in. Each color has a particular wavelength; by administering a certain color we strengthen the aura to repair itself and return to its original ground-tune. The physical effect is healing of the body.
Yellow
Stimulates brain and nervous activity. Energizes the muscles. Speeds up the digestion and assimilation, and the stool. Activates and cheers up depressed and melancholic people. Dark yellow soothes pains in the nerves (shooting pains). Gives lust for life.
Orange
Stimulates the lungs, the respiration and the digestion. Increases the activity of the thyroid. Reliefs muscle cramps and spasms. Increases the amount of mother milk. Shows new possibilities and other options in life. Stimulates creative thinking and enthusiasm.
Red
Brings warmth, energy and stimulation, therefore good for energy, fatigue, colds, chilly and passive people. Red energizes heart and blood circulation, it builds up the blood and heightens a low blood pressure. Energizes all organs and the senses hearing, smell, taste, vision and touch. Increases sexual desire and activity. Stimulates ovulation and menstruation. Never treat cancer with red, because this color will stimulate cell growth!
Magenta
Strengthens contact with your life purpose. Stimulates adrenaline and heart activity. Builds up the aura.
Pink
Heals grief and sadness. Restores youthfulness. Brings you in contact with your feelings.
Green
Brings psychological and emotional harmony and balance; therefore it works calming on the heart and healing on the kidneys (astrological associated with relationships). It cures hormonal imbalances. Stimulates growth hormone and rejuvenation. Cleans and purifies from germs, bacteria and rotting material. Harmonizes the digestion, stomach, liver, gall. Increases immunity. Builds up muscles, bones and tissues. Stimulates inner peace. Strengthens the nervous system.
Turquoise
Increases intuition and sensitivity. Works disinfecting and antiseptic. Tones the general system. Builds the skin. Relaxes sensations of stress.
Blue
Cools down inflammations (don't forget rheumatic inflammations), fever, high blood pressure, stops bleedings, reliefs the bursting headaches, calms strong emotions like anger, aggression or hysteria. Works disinfecting and antiseptic. Brings tranquility. Anti-itching. Anti-irritation (for instance redness of the skin), anti-stress. Soothes suffering.
Violet/Purple
This color of transformation heals melancholy, hysteria, delusions and alcohol addiction, it brings spiritual insights and renewal. Slows down an over-active heart. Stimulates the spleen and the white blood cells (immunity). Brings sleep. Soothes mental and emotional stress. Decreases sexual activity. Decreases sensitivity to pain. Detoxification.
Note: color healing should be regarded as complementary healing; please be wise and always consult a doctor!
Practical use of color healing
Colored light can be obtained by using colored bulbs in lamps, or covering a lamp or window with a transparent colored (plastic) sheet, or by colored dials in a projector. What you do is sit or lie in the stream of colored light for about 30 minutes during several days.
You can hang up (silk) pieces of cloth or paper sheets in the desired color in the room.
You can fill colored glasses or bottles with (spring)water, place it in the window for at least three hours and drink three glasses a day of this water.
You can wear clothes in certain colors.
You can eat food in certain colors. Need more energy: eat tomatoes and strawberries; want mental clarity: bananas and corn, etc.
You can visualize colored light in and around your body, breathe it in and direct it to the body-parts that need it.
Wear jewelry with gemstones in the colors you need.
Visit places in nature that match your need of colors. For calmness go to water, for balance go to the woods, for energy buy red flowers, etc.
Of course a combination of the above works best
Distant color healing can be done in several ways.
Take a photograph, or piece of paper with full address and date of birth of the person you wish to help healing. Expose this to colored light as described above, for 1,5 to 2 hours a day on successive days.
Or put this photograph is an envelope or piece of cloth in the right color and expose it to the sun for several hours a day.
A third way is visualizing the person filled up and surrounded by colored light for as long as you can. Always end with visualizing or sending white light to the person.
A modern way of color healing is working with a biogenerator. This is a device sending cosmic energy by means of glass tubes filled with gasses like helium or hydrogen, each having their own color and healing properties. This is by Nicola
Tesla inspired technology. Several therapists have reported that the color in the glass tubes even changes if the patient needs so.
Working with a biogenerator can be done with physically present patients, but distant healing is also very well possible by for instance treating through photograph. |
