Let Your Kitchen Be Your Drugstore

The use of foods and herbs for treatment of ailing bodies goes so
far back in time that no one is sure when it began.

Our more recent ancestors in colonial America all had their "yarb"
patches as their forefathers did in Europe. A woman was not a good
wife or mother without her "home remedies', many of which were the
same used by the frontier doctors.

The following foods are some which they used for good health or to
regain it. There are many more for each specific problem, but these
are some of the easiest to obtain. Some you will find in the grocery
store with the spices and others you will find in your yard. But
always be sure you know what you are picking, if your yard is where
you get them.

RELAXING HONEY BATH
Put 2oz. of honey in a glass with 5 drops of lavender oil. if the
honey is too thick, heat it by placing the glass in warm water. Add
1 or 2 tbsp. of the honey lavender mixture to your bathwater to help
you relax and combat insomnia.

HONEY AS A DRESSING FOR WOUNDS
Applied externally, honey is useful for healing minor cuts and
abrasions by drawing excess water from the tissues and reducing
swelling. In addition, honey contains a germ-killing substance
called inhibine, which helps prevent infections. spread the honey
directly on wound and cover with a sterile bandage.

HELP FOR HAY FEVER
Honey contains grains of pollen that, over time, may have a
desensitizing effect, making it useful for the relief of allergies.
Hay fever sufferers are advised to eat honey that has been harvested
locally.

FOR RELIEF OF ASTHMA, BRONCHITIS AND OTHER RESPATORY AILMENTS
Honey is an outstanding household remedy that can be used in
combination with various medicinal herbs. For relief of coughs and
wheezing associated with bronchitis, whooping cough or other minor
respiratory ailments, mix 1 tsp. of finely chopped fresh thyme in a
little honey. take the mixture orally as needed to soothe inflamed
lungs and airways.

ORANGE: The dried peel is added to love charms. The fresh or dried
orange flowers added to the bath makes you attractive. The fruit
itself hinders or banishes lust. Keep some leaves or flowers under
the pillow to insure an early and happy marriage, or include them
into a conjure bag to attract love.

NAUSEA: Chew mint leafs, ok this one works. And if all else fails,
suck on some Altoids…really. Because who's just got mint leaves in
their purse all the time?

NERVES: 1 piece rock candy in a jig of whiskey. Drink. (check your
id, make sure your 21)

NOSEBLEEDS: Pour a gallon of milk on the back of the victim's neck.
Or fold a piece of paper over and Place on the upper lip; a bean
will also work; or soak feet in cold water. ~I don't buy these?/DIV>
nothing stops nosebleeds, although the milk thing sounds fun.

PNEUMONIA: Mash cooked onions and put between two cloths, fasten to
victim's chest.

POISON IVY: Put washed leaves of a sweet fern in boiling water and
apply to affected area.

RHEUMATISM: Boil dried apple peelings, strain, drink hot 4 times
daily. Or: Wear the front foot of a mole in a bag - a rabbit foot
would also work. Or: turn your shoes upside down at night. Or put a
Copper wire around the joint or carry sulfur in your pocket. Or
break the ice and Jump into the river. Or get stung by bees. Or
blind a live toad and hold it over the aching place. Or, sleep with
a dog or cat as the animal will take your pains away.

SINUS: 1 tsp salt and 1 cup warm water - sniff through nasal
passages.

SORE THROAT: 1 cup vinegar, 2 tbs. sugar and a sprinkle of black
pepper. Gargle.

SPRAINS: Soak brown paper in vinegar and wrap around affected joint.

STOMACH ACHE: 2 mint leaves in 8 oz. glass cold water, drink as
needed.

SUNBURN: Cider vinegar to affected areas.

TEETHING: Boil catnip, steep, 1 tsp. at bedtime.

TOOTHACHE: Wad of tobacco on sore tools or two cloves

WARTS: Rub castor oil over wart.
