Spiritualism has no Dogma or Creed.
Every being is seen as an individual looking to expand their own awareness and understanding surrounding their role in life.
Spiritualism has 'Seven Principles', given as inspired Guidelines and are open to interpretation to suit your own particular circumstances. They are:
1* The Fatherhood Of God.
2* The Brotherhood Of Man.
3* The Communion Of Spirits and The Ministry Of Angels.
4* The Continuous Existence Of the Human Spirit.
5* Personal Responsibility.
6* Compensation and Retribution Here After For All The Good and Evil Deeds Done on Earth.
7* Eternal Progress Open To Every Spirit.
Spiritualists accept that there is a greater intelligence, the Life Force, an all knowing, ever present energy, 'GOD' that poured forth all of life, leaving within each of us a spark of itself. A source of love and good, constantly available to each and every one of us. They believe that each person follows their own path at their own pace, discovering the 'God' within and bringing them a greater knowledge of this Divine Source.
Spiritualists' basic belief is in the continuation of Life and that Death is just a transition to another level of consciousness.
They see life as eternal.
Spiritualists believe that all people are a Spirit, co-existing in a Physical Body. After death or the releasing of the physical, our Spirit and Personality in the form of our thoughts and emotions continues to live in the spiritual form on a different plane of existence.
Spiritualists recognize Psychic faculties as a natural ability, perhaps latent in some people however, but is another one of our senses. Meditation is an important aspect used in the development and awareness of these areas and is a natural progression towards spiritual unfoldment.
As they experience many things on their journey through life they find ourselves likening life to the classroom in which they learn many lessons.
The majority of Spiritualists are people who at some time were part of an orthodox religion discovering that the knowledge presented was very limited leaving many incomplete answers to questions.
These people are of all ages, race and creed who wish to have the freedom to explore their own understanding, which will assist them to have a better concept of life and its origin, without feeling restricted by the limited views of others. People are encouraged to be responsible for their own actions and to take control of their own life. All are given the chance to seek out truth and beliefs as they apply to themselves.
What are the Aims of Spiritualist Churches/Organisations?
To provide various Speakers/Mediums to share their knowledge of life;
To demonstrate and prove that life continues and communication with caring loved ones is possible;
To create a loving, nurturing atmosphere where one can discover their own divinity. A place where freedom of thought, self expression and confidence in ones uniqueness can grow. Where peace and true at-one-ment with all of life can be felt.
I would like to acknowledge the assistance received from the Australian Spiritual Association for the use of what you read above.
What is Spritualism? When Did It Begin?
In short...It is a Philosophy, Science and Religion, based on the belief of the continuous existence of the Spirit or Soul after death, and the ability to communicate with them.
Aspects of this Spiritualist Philosophy date right back into the very early ages of mankind's history.
Though the Movement as we know it today began in America in 1848, when communication was received from a man known to have died. Then suddenly, contact with the departed became frequent and publicized around the world.
Many small groups gathered together, spreading across America then quickly to England, Europe in 1852 and to the Australian goldfields in Victoria in the 1860's.
Across the world today many countless Churches, Centres and Groups have been formed.
It has developed from the simple wall and table rappings of passing messages from unseen beings to a Religious Philosophy. Modern Spiritualism is referred to as more than a religion, it is a 'way of life' with meaning and purpose.
What happens during a Spiritualist Service?
Spiritualist services are similar in purpose but different in format to the traditional service.
There is inspirational verse, a spiritual message, some prayer, a meditation with healing and a clairvoyant demonstration of communication, sometimes using a flower that is provided before the service begins.
When Spiritualists sing, it brings the gathering together and raises the congregation's thoughts above everyday concerns. Creating and harmonizing the vibrations and links between the Physical life (incarnate) and the free Spirits (discarnate), joining the two energies for easy communication.
This communication takes place through an able person known as a 'Medium' who acts as a channel - 'a phone line' receiving messages and bridging the gap between those on the Earth Plane and those in Spirit (the after life).
