If you are like a lot of people you may find that you wake up in the morning feeling more tired than you actually were when you went to bed.
Obviously this is not an ideal situation, so how can you ensure that you get a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the new day?
Here are a few tips to help you.
It is important to try to mentally unwind before going to bed?/FONT>
As an overactive mind is one of the primary causes of poor and broken sleep.
Try to carry out a low-stress activity in the 30 minutes to an hour before you retire for the night. Examples of such activities are reading and listening to relaxing music.
Maybe go for a stroll, and take in the evening air.
A relaxed body will lead to a relaxed mind.
Two of the best ways that you can relax your body are to engage in a Reiki meditation or take a warm Reiki bath.
Pop a Reiki charged crystal into the bath and soak away your worries.
Another simple tip is to ‘keep a journal? as Oprah would say
When you write things down on paper, it literally and symbolically takes the thoughts out of your mind.
Then you can put them to one side for a while, so you can get a restful nights sleep.
Yes, your worries will still be there on the table in the morning
But you will be more refreshed and able to deal with them.
As you symbolically empty your mind of your clutter before sleep, you can also use the Distance Symbol to open you up to ‘new solutions?or ‘new ideas?while you sleep.
Try drawing the symbol on yellow card and placing it under your pillow, and?/FONT>
You may find yourself bouncing out of bed in the morning, raring to get going with these new solution/ideas.
It is important not to partake of a heavy meal immediately prior to going to bed, but a light snack that is high in carbohydrates can help to relax the body.
Your brain needs sugar, salt, water and potassium to function well.
So complex carbs are best, as they slow release during the night.
As for salt and water, try this?/FONT>
Put a pinch of salt on your hand (good quality sea salt), like you see people do when they drink Tequila
Then lick it off and drink a tumbler of water.
Do this immediately before settling down for sleep.
Potassium can be found in bananas, so add one as your early evening snack.
If you are prone to sleep problems it is particularly important that you create a regular sleep routine, going to sleep at the same time every night and getting up at the same time every morning.
Yes, this includes weekends.
If you are tempted to have a lie in at the weekend you will usually find that this leads to you struggling to get to sleep at the end of the day and feeling tired when you have to get up in the morning to start a new work week.
But make sure it is ‘your?regular routine. One that suits you.
We all have routines and rituals, whether it’s how we cook our eggs or get in the car before setting off.
So make a simple routine for closing down for the night.
Try taking a nap during the day. You only need a fixed amount of sleep during any 24 hour period, so clearly, if you take a nap during the middle of the day you may need less sleep through the night.
But, if this works for you then do it.
We often get up at 5am during the summer months, nap in the afternoon - when the energy slumps - and then carry on happily for the rest of the day.
A power nap for 10 - 20 or even 30 minutes is very refreshing.
Listen to your body.
When it says sleep - sleep.
When you wake up - get up immediately
This is your routine.
This is ‘your body clock?at work.
Your bedroom should be quiet and dark. It is also important that your bedroom temperature is comfortable, neither too hot nor too cold.
Body temperature is ideal.
My best suggestion for a good restful sleep though, can be summed up just in one word?/FONT>
CONTENTMENT
Be content with what you have achieved today.
Be content with who you have been today.
Be content with what you have already.
Be content that you have done all that you can do.
And be content that while you sleep, God will sort his bit too
Be content - for all is exactly as it should be.
Night night - sleep tight.
