This is the holy day of Sapientia, a Roman goddess from whom knowledge

abounds. During these busy, cold days leading up to Yule, one can

sometimes lose one’s head with all the fuss, bother, and buying. Here is

a spell to steady oneself before impulsive acts lead to bad purchases.

Before going shopping, gather your thoughts, breathing deep. Hold your

wallet/purse in your hand and chant:

 

  From my hand to your hand

But not without thought,

Sapientia, I seek thy wisdom

Before my gifts are bought.

Guide me to good choices

And from bad ones, away,

Sapientia, goddess of wisdom,

Guide me on this day.

 

Lists can also be blessed with this spell, especially if you are looking

for a hard-to-find item. Simply request it at the end of the spell,

saying the item three times and visualizing yourself getting a good bargain.

Salute to Ma'at

 

 

Color of the day: Purple

Incense of the day: Mint

 

In the Egyptian calendar, this is one of Ma’at’s days. Ma’at is the

underworld goddess who judges the dead by weighing the heart of the

deceased against an ostrich feather. If the heart is heavier than the

feather, the deceased is doomed. Instead of waiting until death, use

today to lighten your heart. Is there anything for which you feel you

need to atone? Has anything happened since you swept your emotional

hearth on Palm Sunday for which you need to ask forgiveness? Today is

the day to take steps to make it right. Forgive yourself and then take

action to make amends. Do this in honor of Ma’at, not in fear of her.

Stress Banishing

Incense of the day: Eucalyptus

 

It’s only normal to look at the coming Yule season with a sense of dread

and an intense desire for aspirin. The holidays consistently poll as the

most stressful time of year. Rather than letting family squabbles and

work rushes make you crazy, take the bite out of stress with this small

spell. Boil yourself some jasmine tea; you can buy a box at local

grocery stores, or better yet at privately owned Asian grocery stores.

Allow it to steep until the tea glows with a rich honey-gold. Inhale the

jasmine-scented steam, and allow the scent to fill you while you

concentrate on breathing the jasmine into the areas of your body that

carry the most tension. Once you feel your body releasing that tension,

drink the tea, savoring each sip. Then go out and face the crazy

situation at hand, carrying the calm of the jasmine tea with you.

Gather together stones that represent the Sun or the element of fire.

Find pieces of clear quartz, shimmering pyrite, citrine and amber, even

copper or gold jewelry. Arrange your combination of stones and gems

around a cluster of yellow and white candles on a glass plate. Draw on

the power of the Sun for success in any endeavor you are pursuing. This

could be related to a job, school, sporting event, or even a

relationship. As you light the candles, recite these words:

Be blessed,

With pleasure, goodwill,

And success.

May good fortune

Look upon my work,

And guide my efforts

Without hurt.

Let’s clean house! This is the perfect time to banish negativity, clean

up any stray vibes from old spells, and to remove junk and clutter that

has accumulated. We have the energies of a waning Moon and the daily

planetary energies of Saturn to work with here, so let’s get to it.

 

To begin, burn your favorite cleansing incense while you physically

dust, sweep, vacuum, and pick up.

 

Then light a white candle and place it in the center of your home. Now

repeat the spell verse:

 

By the power of Saturn’s day

And the closing week,

All negative energy and

Bad vibes now must leave.

Depart old spells

And stray worn-out charms,

Now dissolve benignly

And cause no harm.

Sometimes we find that it is difficult to take new knowledge into our

minds. The Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena, may provide aid in this

task. Place a piece of polished tiger’s-eye to the right of a yellow

candle on your altar. Light the yellow candle. Write this chant on a

piece of parchment as you read it aloud:

 

Hail, Athena! Come forth to fill my mind with your wisdom bright. Help

me to keep my mind alert and clear, knowing that learning is nothing to

fear. With your wisdom, I ask, make my mind keen, and make my studies

stay with and enlighten me for years to come.

 

Fold the paper seven times and set it aflame in your burning dish.

Gather the ashes and scatter them outdoors. Let the candle burn and

charge the stone while you study. Keep the stone with you when you need

to write papers, take exams, or study.

Is something that happens just coincidence or is it meant to happen?

According to Carl Jung, the Swiss psychoanalyst, a coincidence is

meaningful and occurs for a purpose. This also known as synchronicity.

Pay close attention to events in your life that you might dismiss as

mere coincidences. These could be important steps in your personal and

spiritual development. An event that appears to be coincidental, or

events that appear random and isolated, are connected to your

subconscious and individual purpose. Synchronicity is a sign of magic

happening, designed to deliver a message to you. As you become aware of

these “meaningful coincidences,�?you will begin to notice synchronicity

at work around you. Here are some tips to help you develop synchronicity

awareness. Keep a journal so you can review events and identify

connections. Take notice of apparent coincidences and ask: What does

this mean to me?

Golden leaves curl and crackle, falling, baring skeleton trees. We can

hear the geese call like the horns of Herne, beckoning us back home. We

feel our bones, raw and fragile. The chill night air reminds us of where

we have been before. We return to death’s door, remembering where we

came from, reentering Gaia’s womb. The ancient ones call to us. They

tell us the Earth is magic. Our bodies are rooted here, entwined in time

yet reaching skyward, seeking the one sacred source that radiates from

the invisible world, a world of whispers. Words, images, symbols come

softly, freely, and awaken our senses. They beckon us. We are of the old

craft and we know where our magic lies—between space and time,

connecting both worlds, seeing, unseeing. Tonight we celebrate Samhain.

Illusion fades as we enter the gateway into the Witches�?world. As

above, so below; as within, so without; as the universe, so the soul. We

see the one power in the phases of the Moon. We see the one power in the

heat of the Sun. Together they represent our heavenly parents; the

Goddess and the God; Queen of the darkness and Father of the light. In

many names and guises they reveal themselves to us. Tonight we will don

the mask of a chosen one and align ourselves with that deity in perfect

love and perfect trust.

 

State the god or goddess that you wish to dedicate yourself to for this

coming year. Place a white, black, or red mask on your face as you say

the name and light a votive in his or her honor. Playing trance music,

journey with your chosen deity. Journal the messages you receive.
